Riley's pov:
So I am a full lifeguard now. Fun. It actually has been fun, minus a couple of screaming kids and distressed adults and just all-around humans being stupid. I've gained some respect from the rest of the crew, but most things have stayed the same. The people of the crew are still really protective over me. Well, most of them were before, but now maybe a little more.
This might surprise you, but I have an off day today. This means I am surfing, even though my job is to work at the beach doesn't mean I stay away. Besides the beach is welcome to everyone, even lifeguards on their day off. So enjoy me taking you along on my off day. Well half day off because I woke up at 2:30, and I also have work tomorrow. Guess we haven't had a normal day of lifeguarding yet. That being said, there is usually no normal day on Bondi beach, unless it's raining or something.
I decided to get away from prying eyes. Thankfully, the fact that I know how to sneak onto Tamarama without being seen from the cliffs or the road means I can surf in peace. Covid has made sure that only Tamarama beach is open; Bondi, Bronte and Tam are open (a/n Yes I got sick of typing Tamar- the beach she is at)
I am not too scared tho, I am nearly fully vaccinated, now I just wait for my second shot, which is taking a while I might add, another reason I am going to a beach that no one has been to since a year and a half ago. Sneaking past the barrier is one thing but ( A/n Just a little reality check, don't do this, this is just to further depict me being a somewhat comedic writer or should I say witty and sassy? Before I go on a rant about my opinion on my writing let's get back to the story) staying hidden from the road and any noisy lifeguards, who might be walking by, but that is another whole ball game.
I begin walking with my board, briskly down the beach, do you ever have a feeling like someone is watching you? I have had that feeling ever since Josh or he who shouldn't be named Jr, went to jail or so I thought. I found out from our lawyer that he was bailed out and is on strict probation/house arrest. I still think it would give me the joy to see him behind bars and in shackles but whatever, a girl can dream.
I finally got a wave and was in the middle of doing a signature trick, (A/N which since the writer is such an expert (not) at surfing, chooses to not be named.). I suddenly started to hear what sounded like a piece of wood or Styrofoam snapping in half. I was at the peak of my wave at the time when I suddenly got flung off of it. I hate it when this happens ever, not usually actually. I grabbed the split-in-half surfboard, swimming back to shore/using the broken pieces to body surf in.
Once I got to shore, I started to investigate my spontaneous board (a/n I totally didn't us auto-correct to spell that word lol.) spilt, grazing my fingers over the spilt part of my board, someone cut it through halfway with a saw, it was cut less than halfway through, the pressure from me surfing split it fully half. My surfboard has 3-D engravings and designs, which explains why I didn't notice it ahead of time. Thankfully, I wasn't near the rocks or flat rock. Ouch. I started to walk back to my bags, which were hidden from the street view. I sighed in defeat as I sat down. I thought maybe I could try body surfing or attempt to use a broken piece as a skimboard. Yeah, the last thing I need is a broken leg. I started to pack up my stuff, then my phone started ringing. Picking it up, I saw Jesse, or as I called him in my contacts, The Overlord of All Things Unfun.
"Hey Dad, what's up?" I asked him. Surely there is no way he could know I am breaking a couple of laws and my board.
"What? I can't innocently call my daughter to ask where she is? Or what she is doing? And does she know anything about the lifeguard tower being broken into last night?" Jesse asked me, rather accusingly, jeez and people say Tullie is a helicopter parent.
