Chapter 1- New Friend

I pack my last box excited to move out to Texas for a while. I wanted a change in scenery hoping it'd give me motivation to really move out and pursue music in the future. I Bring my last box out to my friend rae's car being that I'm driving up to Texas with her while my parents come out a few days later. Rae has a nice little country side home she's letting us stay in for the next few months... maybe year it depends on how fast I gain an accent.

After driving for approximately 10 hours we stop to go and get something eat not having anything since breakfast which was just coffee and a single bagle we shared needless to say we were starved. We never noticed where we stopped at but we order some food at a random drive through and eat in rae's new car. "Don't drop anything in here Sydney I swear to god"! Hey calm down I'm careful darling I say sarcastically. She sighs dramatically but I know she's joking.

We throw our trash away and rae drives the rest of the way. "Ok syd how are excited are you for this move... really"? I'm excited I can't wait to be in a new atmosphere to write songs, meet new people I think a change'll be good for me I say as I give her a weak smile at the end. The main reason I'm leaving Florida is my ex they haunt my hometown and I need a getaway... it's not forever. I never knew someone who could act like an angle could hurt someone, anyone so much and it had to be me I... I... I hate him I think to myself probably looking insanely sad or angry whichever emotion I'm feeling more.

We're now in Texas the Lone Star State.
I picked this place for a plethora of reasons not just because of how convenient rae's house was. I have a few other old friends who moved here a few years ago and seeing them would be amazing. I wanted a change but nothing that strays too far from my hometown. I step foot inside my new home for the next few months. I notice my new neighbors pull into their driveway I go to see who comes out maybe just curious maybe creepy but before I can rae pulls me into the house and shows me around.

I put most of my stuff away and realize that me and rae have to share a bed. Its like a never ending sleepover I say to myself smiling. Exhausted I go to bed early without dinner knowing my mom would get mad but I was too tired to care. I wake up to my alarm going off and I turn it off. 8:00am I mumble to myself. How is it already September I say once again to myself. I make my way to the bathroom and shower away all the road trip from the day before. Once I get out I put on an outfit for today so I can go and get some coffee and groceries.

After I make way to the kitchen and look out the window and I notice a boy going out to his car. I realize I'm staring only after he waves at me and I turn around quickly hiding. Great I haven't even been here a whole day and I've already made a fool out of myself can't wait for school I say annoyed to myself. I look to see he's now in his car soon driving off. I grab my handy backpack and phone and head out to rae's car. I asked if she wanted to come but she wouldn't leave her spot on the bed. I'm sorry but, I'm already like two weeks late for school this is just embarrassing I say to myself remember I still have to finish this year then whoo college more sarcasm. I make my way to the closet coffee shop and order my usual cappuccino and make my way to a small table.

I pull my old song book out and continue to write the song I wrote about a month ago.

~ tired eyes
my tired eyes have taken over and I never look satisfied with the world around me. Everything to me.... i quickly stop writing after someone bumps into me and I drop my song book. "Oh my god I'm so sorry here let me". The most beautiful boy I've most definitely ever seen looks back up to me and he has the most stunning hazel brown eyes and the most precious freckles dusted across his face. I soon feel like I've seen him before until it hits me he's my neighbor. He's probably sick of me staring at him by now. Gosh I'm so sorry for staring I was just... shocked it's umm it's you my new neighbor hi I laugh nervously.

"Hey yeah I remember you from earlier this morning". Yes right let's forget that happened. He lets out the most perfect laugh and I'm soon met with his captivating stare as I ask for his name. "Hi I'm Conan and sometimes my friends call me cone". Oh is that an invite to call you cone? "Make of it what you want he says with a smirk". Oh my name's Sydney but my friends call me syd. "Oh is that an invite to call you syd"? Oh make of it what you want I say mocking him back. Would you like to sit with me? "I'd love to but, I actually have a crap load of editing to do and... well that's why I'm here plus the coffee's great here".

Oh well that's ok I won't hold you any longer I say a little disappointed and, almost like he caught my disappointment he sat down with his laptop. "Well I suppose I could sit and chat for at least a little while he says with a soft smile". That'd be nice... are you sure you wanna stay? "Oh positive so where you'd come from cause you don't sound like you're from around here"?

Oh I'm from Florida but, I needed a change and we'll my friend has a almost always empty house here so I'll be staying here in Texas for awhile I say with a light smile. There's a short silence that I start to loathe until he grabs my hand gently and asks where I got my bracelet from? Oh I say shyly, I made it I say. "Its so pretty wow ". I giggle at him and thank him. "Hey what's so funny he asks trying to look serious but, it doesn't work making me laugh even more. He starts laughing with me and starts I'm guessing absentmindedly playing with my bracelet. Hey would you want it you seem to really love  it I've literally made hundreds? "No I couldn't he says shyly". Oh don't worry about it I say as I slip it off and place it on his tiny wrist.

"You're sure he asks still unsure"? Yes I promise it's ok I really want you to have it I say giving him a soft smile.
"Well thank you I love it he's says as he stands up to leave, but I gotta go and edit now I'll talk to you later... sud he says giving a sweet smile". It was nice talking to you come I'll see ya I say smiling looking at my songbook. I watch as he walks away fidgeting with his new bracelet.

I stop by the nearest grocery store and pick up some stuff for the next few nights. I text my mom to see if she's left for Texas yet but, they haven't being that dad got sick. I tell them I love them and wish him a speedy recovery. I make my way back to my house and find conan knocking on my door. I soon get out of my car leaving my door open to go back for my groceries.

Hey cone watcha doing finish editing? "Yeah... yeah guess I just wanted to see ya again he chuckled nervously". Well alright I'll let you inside if you help with our groceries. He smiles at me. "Of course lead the way madame". I chuckle lightly pulling him over to my car and letting him inside. You can just leave the stuff on the counter I say as I put away some milk.

"Great so are we like hanging out now he jokes but, still sounding serious"? Oh yeah help yourself to anything here after all this isn't my house I joke. He gets up from the couch and walks over to me and stands next to me and side eyes me while looking through the groceries.
Hey what do you think you're doing I ask laughing?
Sorry I'm just so hungry he says embarrassed". Ahhh gotcha well I can make us some lunch I say as I pull his hand out the bag.

"Really... why are you so sweet... and to me"? I look over to him confused... whatdya mean I ask? He looks at me then quickly back down. "It's fine it's... nothing he says laughing". I grab his hands taking note how nice they feel in mine, I'm nice to you because you're sweet to me and we'll I like you Conan... lemme make some lunch for us.

After we finish our lunch conan heads home but, not before he kisses me on the cheek and yelling out goodbye. I wave off to him lightly touching my cheek. (We're just friends I need to stop thinking as if there could ever be more.) I just now notice a note on the fridge from rae and she was out all day with her boyfriend cal who's staying here for the week.

I throw the note in the trash now knowing not to wait up. I change into something more comfortable and fall asleep to the faint mummers of the tv in the living room.
