Momo stood there like a statue, frozen in place. She could have handled a volcano erupting right in front of her, but not this—not him. Time had changed him. He looked more handsome, more poised, and far more intimidating than before. His presence carried an icy chill, yet when his gaze met hers, there was a peculiar calm in his eyes that unsettled her even more.
"I came here to meet Mr. Yi," he said, his voice deep and steady.
"Why? Why now? Do you still have anything left to take?" Momo snapped, her words cutting through the tense silence.
His expression didn't waver. The lack of emotion on his face made her unease grow deeper.
"I just came here to—"
"Bro, let's go. They're waiting for us," another voice interrupted.
A second man stepped into view, and Momo's breath caught for a different reason. He was just as handsome but carried a warmth that contrasted sharply with the cold presence of the first man. His smile was easy and disarming, the kind that could melt even the most guarded of hearts.
"Momo! When did you get back? Mom's been waiting for you," her brother Yi Shian said, oblivious to the storm brewing in her heart.
She crossed her arms, forcing a wry smile. "Looks like you're going out with him," she said, nodding toward the first man.
"Yeah, we're heading to a party," Yi Shian replied casually, as though nothing was amiss.
Momo couldn't fathom how people seemed drawn to this man like moths to a flame. She glared at Yi Shian, as if silently questioning his judgment, but her brother remained clueless.
"Best of luck, brother. And don't get dumped," she said sarcastically before storming into the house.
Yi Shian blinked in confusion, glancing at the man beside him, but the other's face remained unreadable, as cold and composed as ever.
Momo didn't stop even when her mother called out to her. She marched straight into her room, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. Picking up her phone, she dialed a number.
"Li Wan is back," she said, her voice low and trembling.
The person on the other end gasped in shock. "What?! How do you know?"
"He was outside my house. He came to pick up my brother, and they went to a party together. I don't know why, but I'm already getting bad vibes."
"Don't worry," the voice reassured her. "Just let me know if you need me."
Momo hesitated before asking, "Do you think... if Li Wan came back, does that mean he might come back too?"
A heavy pause followed. "I hope not. I pray he doesn't. I don't want to go back to that life, and I don't want you to get hurt again."
"Let's hope for the same," Momo murmured. "Good night."
"Good night."
The call ended, but the anxiety didn't. Momo lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. Her thoughts swirled with memories she wished she could forget.
"Why now?" she whispered to herself. "I just don't want to go back. Not to that."
Meanwhile, Yiyi sat on her own, miles away, echoing the same sentiment. "I just don't want to go back," she muttered.
But who were these men, and why did they terrify the girls so much? What had happened between them that left such deep scars?
Yiyi and Momo had once believed they were invincible, that their bond could withstand anything. But life had thrown them into a trap—a trap so intricate and suffocating that even escaping left shadows trailing behind them.
Yiyi wanted to close all the doors, to shut out any chance of their return. Momo wished she could stop time, to freeze the world and prevent those men from re-entering their lives.
But fate has its own plans, indifferent to human fears and desires.
Would they meet salvation, or would doom come knocking once more? Would a fairy bring them hope, or would a devil drag them back into darkness?
Could closing doors and halting the world truly keep their past at bay? Or was it only a matter of time before the shadows reclaimed them?
