I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On
I sat there in the square with Sydnee…a week had passed. It was almost the weekend, again. “I can’t believe it!”
“What?”
“You took a whole week, to tell me that you seen Gissele Brady in Westport, turning tricks for crack?!?” shouted Sydnee. Then she lowered her voice. “Why didn’t you get her and take her home? Her parents are probably worried sick about her! And why were you in Westport anyway?”
“Shhh!” I hissed. “I was over there with Dupree. He was getting his weekly weed stash…and I was waiting on him, and there she was, walking across the street…I tried to get her, to take her home. She dipped out on us at the restaurant,”
“God,” sighed Sydnee. “Have you told anyone else about this? Jassandra, or Meridian?”
“No,” I breathed. “I’m still trying to make sense of all this. Dupree brought up some points that were hard for me to swallow, but were valid. So I can’t just act out on any of this,”
“Okay,” sighed Sydnee. “So, are you going to the fundraiser tonight? I have the cutest dress…and no one to go with. Dillion is working late at the shipyard,”
“Oh shit! I forgot to tell Jassandra about the fundraiser,” I snapped. “Been so busy…maybe I should call her”-
“Mitchell, do you know it long it would take, for her to get ready? And the fact, that this is a formal event? And you’re going to call her on short notice? Good luck on that,” countered Sydnee. “Why don’t we just go together? I mean, we’re already here at the Academy, and the fundraiser is at the hall,”
“I don’t know,” I postured.
“Mitchell…it’s me. I won’t bite,” said Sydnee. I looked into her beautiful brown eyes, and her trusting smile. We had been friends for a while, and Syd hadn’t done anything to me to make me question her trust. I smiled. “Okay, I’ll be your date…but keep your hands above my waist,”
We laughed. “I should be telling you that,” said Sydnee. She stood up, as I gave her a friendly hug. “See you at the fundraiser tonight, Mitchell. Don’t be late,”
“I won’t,” I said. I rose from the spot under the tree where we sat. I helped Sydnee fold the blanket, and then we went our separate ways. I returned to my quarters, where Capers was packing his bags to go home for the weekend. They decided to let the Plebes go early this weekend, because of the fundraiser gala. He looked to me. “Why haven’t you packed yet?”
“My dad is an officer, and I have to attend the gala…so does Sydnee,” I said. Capers looked to me, as I continued. “We’re just going together as friends tonight. Nothing is going to happen between us…I know how you feel about her,”
“Not much I can do anyways,” grumbled Capers. “She’s still talking to that jerk dude anyways…and even if she split with him, I’d still have to contend with pro-style championship cockblocking from Billings,”- I laughed at that comment…Capers sighed. “Who am I foolin? I’ll never have a girl like Sydnee,”
