NOTE: The video clip song "Wrong" is the song that plays in the club, during the dance scenes. The ambience of the club was remiscent of a local spot I used to frequent back in the day.

Wrong

Saturday afternoon…I turned on the washer, as Meridian sat in the kitchen, yapping on about how she had been hanging out with Marnie Springfield. I was doing laundry and Mom and Dad had taken the weekend to have a little romance on the high seas…in other words, they had taken the boat for a weekend getaway. While I was happy that Meridian had started making new friends, I was still bummed from the fact that I hadn’t spoke with Jassandra in almost a week, and the shocking revelation, that Pennel had dropped on me.

“And now they want me to give them shopping tips…they are trying to get top fashions on discount. Like, EWWH!” rambled Meridian. “Oh…Dupree and I are going to the urban juke joint tonight…wanna come with...?”

“Nah,” I answered. I didn’t wanna feel like a third wheel on Meridian’s first official date with Dupree. “I’m gonna probably see what Ethan is up to…he’s coming back to home to see his fam for a little while before he goes to Myrtle Beach,”

“You mean stupid ass Ethan Kimbley, your ‘supposed’ best friend, who talked all that nonsense in your head the first time, to make you have doubts about your relationship with Jassandra?” questioned Meridian. “He’s a racist, Mitchell,”

“Come on, Meridian….I’ve been friends with the guy for most of my high school life. Ethan is not a racist…stupid, yeah. Racist, no,” I said. “He has nothing against minorities or other races…he just prefers not to date other races,”

                   “Isn’t that being racist?”

“Whatever his reasons are for not wanting to date other ethnics are, his reasons,” I said. “I think I’ve grown enough to not his listen to his stupid drivel this time,”

“I don’t know Mitchell…I just feel like you are giving up on Jassandra. Like you’ve just accepted that she is gonna say that she wants out of the relationship,” said Meridian.

“Look Meridian, I’m not the one who asked for any of this. Jassandra did…all I’m just doing is, abiding by her wishes,” I said. “I haven’t called her, and I haven’t gone over to see her, just like she requested. I’m giving her time and space,”

“Sometimes when we say those things Mitchell, we are waiting to see if you really want us as much as you claim to,” said Meridian. “I did the same thing to Dupree…I let him down, by telling him that we couldn’t be together, but in a way I also wanted him to step up. He never did- it took me coming over there, to get him interested in me,”

“What the fuck, kind of philosophy is that?” I asked. “So you are telling me, when Jassandra asked me for time and space to think about things concerning us, she really wanted me to come back by now, and apologize again, and show her how much I really care about us?”

“Exactly,” answered Meridian, as she bit into her toasted chicken salad sandwich. I shook my head, as I sat down at the table. I picked my chicken salad sandwich, and took a bite. Meridian took a sip of her bottle of Jones’ Black Cherry soda. “You gotta understand…you hurt her when you slept with Pennel on the same day she confessed her feelings for you,”
