"C'mon! Let's go open our presents!"

"Do I have to get up?"

"Well, duh, the tree's over there," Jade says, pointing to the small tree next to th TV in the corner.

I just whine and get up from my spot at the table, leaving my empty plate and following her to the small living room and sitting down in front of the tree.

"Okay, so what are you gonna open first?" I ask her, as she stares at the small amount of gifts under the tree, the colors reflecting off in her eyes.

"Do I have to open something first? How about you go first?" she says, looking back up to me.

"Fine, how about we open the gifts we got from everyone else first, and then open each others?"

"Okay, deal."

So we continue to open our presents that we got. I pick up the first one and already know it's from my mum, since she uses the same wrapping paper each year. I carefully unwrap it, and it reveals a penguin hat with little flippers sewn onto the sides.

"Aw, I remember having the same exact one as a kid!" I say, and place it on my head, the tassels hanging from the sides fall into my shoulders.

Jade nods her head and smiles, saying, "It looks cute. I like it."

"You haven't opened anything yet!" I say, pointing to the shimmering gifts under the tree, "Open them!"

She smiles and shakes her head, picking up a medium-sized gift in her hand and setting it on her lap. I watch her movements as she checks who it is from, and it so happens that it is from my mum has well, since I had told her about Jade.

"Did you tell her about me?!" she says, throwing her arms down, trying to look annoyed when I know she is grateful for the present.

"Well, I kind of had to; I do hang out with you basically everyday," I say, shrugging my shoulders and then motioning her to open the present.

She sighs and smiles, delicately picking off the wrapping from the object inside, unveiling a black sweater. She puts her hand over her mouth and laughs uncontrollably hard.

"What's so funny?"

"Look at the design."

I take the sweater from her lap and place it in my own. I start to laugh as well when I see the penguin that looks exactly like the hat I am wearing.

"Look, there's a note," Jade points out, and picks it up from the wrapping.

She shakes her head and then hands me the note, and I read it.

I laugh and sigh at the same time, shaking my head at how silly she is.

We continue to open the gifts that we got until it is just the gifts we got each other.

"Let's open them at the same time, yeah?" I say, and pick up her gift and place it on my thighs.

She nods and is smiling widely as she picks up the small gift from under the tree and cradles it in her hands.

"One," I slip my fingers inbetween the folds of the paper, "two," I rip a little bit, and Jade does the same, "three!"

We both start to take off the wrapping that the other person had put on, and start to reveal the gifts.

I start to see fabric in the rips I made, and open the paper more. I pick up the cotton sweater and hold it in my hands. The white print on the front contrasts with the black fabric, which spells out 'Teenage Dirtbag' on it.

"Nice!" I say, slipping it over my head and then watching Jade look at her gift.

She reads the box and gasps, putting her hand over her mouth and then looks up at me.

"You got me an art set?"

"Yep. I've seen you doodling at work, and you're pretty good, so I thought I'd get you a professional set so you can work on it," I answer, smiling because I know she likes the gift.

Jade takes another look at the PRISMACOLOR set, and then jumps up onto me and hugs me tightly.

"Thank you. I've always loved to draw."

"You're welcome. Whenever you finish a drawing, show it to me, yeah?" I say, pulling away a little and looking her in the eyes.

She nods firmly and hugs me.
