Spring of 1988
Dear Diary,
The moon reflects on the ponds that lie in the backyard of the Victorian French home. I sit on the roof collecting my thoughts one by one. The spring air fills my nostrils as I recall the moments of Easter break that have been occurring. It has been days since I departed from my forever home. I miss the smell of Hogwarts, the way the rain hides it every few days. The hallways were always filled with chatter. I am craving the feel of the cold stones of the stairwell that leads you to the girls dormitory. I miss my friends. The laughter we shared. I am counting down the seconds until I return to campus.
I pause from writing as I hear the creaks of the ladder as a stranger makes the climb to my seating area. I look over to the ladder to see the stranger climbing up. They mutter and groan to themselves about the steps that it takes to climb up. I let out a laugh as the stranger almost slips off the ladder, this earns me a glare in return. The stranger finally reaches the top and takes a seat next to me.
"Why does this have to be your favorite spot? Why can't you pick something on the ground," The voice speaks. I glance at the platinum-haired boy as I examine the height of the ground from the spot of the roof where we are. I never actually realized how high it was. I have gotten used to climbing to this spot on the ladder ever since I was young. I close my journal and look back at the moon that I was once writing about.
"Are they still down there?" I ask my child-hood best friend, Draco Malfoy. He sighs and nods.
We both know that if they, our parents, are still talking this late into the night then that means nothing good is coming out of it. I always wondered what excitement they get out of being Death-eaters. My eyes look down at my forearm which is clean of the infamous death-eater mark.
"They are planning something. You know, we will return to school soon, but there hasn't been any word from the three." My mind immediately connects the dots of who the three are; Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Harry Potter. Despite the tension between Draco and the three, I know Draco cares and is worried about them. He might have caused problems between them in the past, but we all know we can't control the hand that was dealt to us.
"What do you think they are planning? I mean, it can't be good. I heard Neville was planning a meeting for the DA when we returned to campus." Even though Draco isn't part of the DA because of his status in the school, I do keep him updated about what we talk about. It took me a while for me to trust him, especially since he was helping Umbridge try to uncover the hiding spot of the DA.
"You guys need to be careful. Times are becoming dangerous. You, Azealia, Ophelia, and Amora need to make sure you guys are aware of everything and don't get caught up." My mind races back to my friend group. I miss them as always. I haven't even thought about how this plan my parents are scheming with their friends could affect them.
"Draco! We are leaving." The sound of his mom, Nacrissa Malfoy, reaches the top of the roof. I smile at the sound of her voice. She has been my second mother ever since my mom passed away when I was five, leaving me with my dad and cut-throat step-mother, Calenia. He stands up dusting off his pants and smiles at me.
"I will see you tomorrow on the train. I will save you a seat with Pansy, Blaise and I." I nodded watching him return down the ladder. His footsteps disappear as I hear the side gate close. I glance at the moon once more knowing that once I get on the train tomorrow, my Easter holiday will conclude and I will have to return to whatever duties await me.
