"I love you Shelby, have a good night." I told my neice that was also my bestfriend.
"Goodnight Lu, love you too. Bye!"
After two seconds I heard the small beep, meaning Shelby had hung up to go to sleep, so I decided to do the same.
I got up and off of the sofa and started to head up the stairs to my bathroom. It was average size with a pale green as the wall color.
I brushed my teeth and hair before putting my hair into a lazy pony-tail to keep it unknotted and keep it out of my face while I try and sleep.
I then exited the bathroom and treaded off to my small bedroom.
When I got there, I switched off the lights and slowly flopped onto my bed, turning off my small bedside table lamp and snuggling into the sheets.
I felt my cat, Nadia, jump onto the bed and slide over to my side and start to cuddle into me while yawning. I started to pet her until she finally settled down a little bit and she started to drift off to sleep.
"I love you, goodnight Nadia."
A small meow came from Nadia.
Sleep didn't come as easy to me. I spent most of the night just staring at the ceiling while jumping at every small noise I heard.
I had dealt with insomnia since my childhood, it had started after my parents divorced when I was nine.
I was at my dad's new home with his new girlfriend and my older sister, Cindy, the mother of Shelby. I just couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried to.
It was around four in the morning when I fell asleep at my desk while I was reading a comic book.
Cindy had walked into my room at about eight in the morning to wake me for pancakes, bacon, and eggs, only to find me sound asleep hunched over my small work desk.
I haven't been able to get a good
night's sleep ever since that night, no matter how comfy a bed was or how nice the sheets felt against my skin.I had tried to count sheep before, but that just made me focus more on counting sheep than actually trying to sleep.
Usually, I just try to picture what tomorrow will withhold and hope to drift off as soon as possible, but that doesn't usually happen very fast—if ever.
