(Somewhere)
"Better to be sure of what's going on first." You said as you picked up bags and packed some essential items. Dusty clothes, some gold, flasks, empty glass bottles. You're surprised that you could still find useful stuff in your house. You figured they'd be turned to dust by now.
"To the old town then." You decided to walk. You'd be a little hungry when you get there of course. But if the old town is still populated with humans, you could trade gold for food, and if not, use magic to forage.
The hike was uneventful, all in all. The trees were very green and so is the grass. Though you couldn't help but notice the numbers grimm in a forest full of life. You do not cower, of course, doing so would only allow them to find you. Entertaining the creatures of darkness in their little games are foolish, you hid from their sight and let them pass without trouble.
A couple of hours later in the afternoon and halfway to the town, you feel hunger kicking in, but better to be hungry than to lose precious mana. While traveling, you calculated that if you were to use up all your mana reserves, it will take at least a thousand years to fully recover them. Obviously you could not be alive at that point, meaning that if you were to use more than a tenth of your mana, it will never be fully recovered.
You shudder at the thought. In your days, you'd only need a month at most to regain your mana naturally.
"Long gone I see." You said to the ruined town before you. Nature has reclaimed its rightful place to the land, the thick vines hugging the walls of houses being a testament to that.
You feel a pang of regret and sadness. After all, you've grown quite fond of the people here. Their acceptance to a stranger, their culture, festives , their way of life. All of those are probably all gone now. But it's fine, what you learned throughout your time in this town is that you can always find a new home. All that matters is that you don't forget the good times in your old one.
"I wish I was here longer." You kept walking.
You would have reminisce of the past but your growling stomach urges you to move forward, being a wizard doesn't excempt you from being a mortal, and mortals must CONSUME in order to live.
Conveniently, you see a smoke in the distance, surely from a campfire. You walked towards it confidently because there was no need to scout it out. If they're smart enough to make fire then they must be smart enough to see reason.
While walking towards the fire, you felt something, a tingle in your old heart, your legs also become weak. Are you perhaps happy? Excited that you may finally see people? No, that is your instinct telling you that something is wrong.
It's eerily quiet. Well of course it is quiet, you're in an abandoned town after all. But it's different, you've had this feeling before. As if something bad is about to happen.
Just as you finished thinking about the unusual quietness that you've felt, something hit you in the knee... Well, it didn't actually pierce through your flesh, it pierced through your barrier but stopped it enough to not cause sufficient damage.
Protection Magic, saving lives since thousands of years ago.
You looked at where that came from, four? No, another one is hiding. There's really no time to think about it in an open field. You rushed to cover immediately, dodging a couple more of that invisible thing along the way.
"No point in hiding pal! Just give us your belongings!" You hear a voice, a foolish one. You do not have anything except maybe from a walking stick that broke halfway before you even got here.
"Are you sure you want this fight?" You spoke back.
"Shut your mouth! Get him!"
You sighed, you really don't want to be in action as much as possible. You're not in the mood, especially now that your stomach is starting to hurt.
