A sigh of relief escaped Ozpin's mouth. With the girl's performance, the council of Vale would finally shut up and get off his back. He can finally sit down, relax, and savor his hot chocolate for the time being.

Yes, enrolling someone in the academy while they're two years younger than the required age is quite questionable. He already knows what the news articles are saying; nepotism. It's no secret that he has favored the team of the young rose's parents after all.

It's not really the reason but of course nobody would care, not that they'd understand anyway.

He simply has no choice. He let his guard down after acquiring a silver eye in the past generation and reality slapped him with her untimely demise. He knows his enemies would immediately pounce on the idea of a weakened Ozpin.

With this maybe "she" will be cautious, just as "she" had around Summer. Just enough for the young rose to mature and bloom to be just like her mother.

'Just a little more.' Ozpin tried to convince himself. An act that has started to wane in its effectivity. He wonders why the gods have chosen him for this task. Why him and not his master? Their supposed favorite.

Indeed he heard of the tales. The world's greatest calamity and coincidentally also hailed as the world's strongest mage being visited by the gods. Why not his master? Because the grand enemy was Ozpin's beloved? Thinking back, it doesn't really matter. For sure the gods were wrong. They just don't care about humanity anymore that they wouldn't bother to fix their mistake.

But not Ozpin. The gods may very well have moved on and forgotten to care for the Remnant of their mistake but so long as he is alive, he will do anything to let this world live. To make this world work.

"Ozpin?" He heard Ironwood from the scroll. He only then realized that he was in the meeting with the headmasters of Haven and Atlas Academies.

"It's nothing, My mind just wandered for a moment."

"That's doesn't seem like you, friend. Maybe you should take it easy and get some rest." Lionheart said in a concerning tone.

"I agree with Leonardo, the Vytal Festival is soon. Say why don't all of us relax at Beacon? Let's call Theodore too, he's been radio silent for quite some time. I'll bring the booze, Atlas' finest." Ironwood proposed.

"You both know I don't drink."

"And you should." Lionheart and Ironwood said in unison. The three of them laughed and continued to talk as close old friends would.

"It's quite unfortunate but I'd have to refuse the invitation. We found a lead a possible location of the Spring Maiden, as much as I'd love to relax, Salem will not wait for us to finish resting." Lionheart said.

"Quite ironic to have an immortal be impatient huh?" Ironwood joked grimly.

For the first time Ozpin told his allies everything even their grand enemy's secret and he didn't know why. Perhaps after thousands of years fighting an unwinnable battle alone he desired for companions that can share his burden. What matters is that he knew of the risks, took it, and the gamble paid off.

Leonard was surprised but even then he stated that fighting an opponent that doesn't die is insane yet admirable even if Ozpin himself is technically immortal.

James took it harder, it took years to mend their broken friendship. That said, the general was still grateful that he was let in on the secret, unlike Ozpin's old allies.

Now they truly walk the same path together. Unlike before where they were blindfolded and Ozpin describes their environment as he leads. This time they can see the unending trail that Ozpin first tried to hide from them. But at least now, they can march in despair with the company of each other.
