I laughed like ah idiot. I couldn't believe it! There's a virus named after this hell hole?! I kept laughing and fell to the floor, exhausted from my laughs. I looked up to see the man not amused. I laughed more and banged my head on the ground.
After a minute I got up with a smug smile plastered on my face, "Sorry about that, just seems like bull shit!"
The man chuckled, which caught me off guard a bit, "Well Kai...its all real. This game simulates what you see when you are infected. Every level represents a stage of the virus. Level 4, the one you were just on, represented the 5th stage. That stage makes you feel like everything is hot and you have to use a lot of strength, in this case the monsters, to keep on going."
I sighed, "What was stage 1?"
The man smiled, "That would be the black out. The disconnection from real and fake reconnected."
I nodded. I remember blacking out before heading into Xarnia. In fact I blacked out after each level, but that was so they could get their hands on my friends. I coughed into my arm and than spurted out, "What's with my friends coming here too?"
The man closed his gray eyes, "They're having different experiences than you. This way we get multiple data results to figure out when we should inject the serum that cures Xarnia. If injected too early or late the serum kills the subject. We need multiple results to find the right stage and multiple subjects is how we do that."
I countered with, "But we're just kids for heaven's sake!"
The man opened his eyes and they showed not angry or sorrow. They showed more of confusion, "You act more of an adult than a kid. All of you do. Heck on level 3 your Mathias buddy tried to..."
I cut him off because I didn't want to know the details at a time like this. Maybe best to save it for later, "Yeah yeah. Anyways dude, this seems illegal because you did it without our consent."
The man laughed and yet again I was thrown off guard. He finished and said, "But your parents did."
