⇨ You and Ransom had been dating for nearly six months. When you first started seeing him, you never thought it would amount to much. And why would it? Ransom was the most eligible and the most powerful bachelor in Boston. When he met you, you were working double shifts at a little diner. It was a match that shouldn't have made any sense.

⇨ You were so sure your first date was just going to end up being a one night stand. He'd left by the time morning came, and you didn't hear from him for several weeks.

⇨ Not until he came limping into your apartment, covered in blood and bruises, ranting about some asshole who thought he could threaten his empire. You took care of him that night, cleaning his cuts, doctoring him up the best you could. You expected him to be gone by the time the sun rose, but when you woke, he was still there, large body curled around your own.

⇨ He never really left you after that. And you were never sure why, but you didn't want him to leave either. There was something so alluring about him. Something that wasn't his looks, or his powerful, or his money. No, something beneath all of that drew you in.

⇨ In his own fucked up kind of way, he cared a lot for you. He seldom expressed it outright. He was raised to keep emotions in check, showing all your cards was bad for business. But when you woke up in the middle of the night to him peppering your body with kisses, when he surprised you with dinner on your birthday, when he threatened your boss for letting customers harass his girl, you knew that he loved you, even if he couldn't say it.

⇨ You said it, though. You said it like it was your dying breath. Just because Ransom couldn't say it, it didn't mean that it should never be said. So you said it every time you saw him, from the time you first woke up until you fell asleep in his arms. Ransom Drysdale deserved to know he was loved.

⇨ But when said the words as you left the restaurant he took you to for dinner, you stopped dead in your tracks.

⇨ "What did you say?"

⇨ "I said: God, I love you."

⇨ "Oh, Ransom, I love you too."

⇨ "I know. What's not to love?"

⇨ You giggled as you got into the car, Ransom following behind you. He told the driver to take the two of you to his house, you curling into his side as you peppered kisses down his jawline, declaring your love for him with every kiss.

⇨ But, the sweet moment ended as quickly as it began.

⇨ You weren't sure what had happened, but as the driver turned a corner, the car was hit on the side, flipping over, tumbling off the side of the road.

⇨ You flew into the car door, smacking your head against the window. In the distance, you could hear shouting, the firing of guns. You reached out, trying to find Ransom, but he wasn't with you.

⇨ Your chest tightened as you tried to push yourself up, tried to find him, but everything only hurt more as you moved. So you sat still, your entire body aching as you tried to steady your breathing, tried to calm together.

⇨ By the time you felt Ransom come back to you, you were having a panic attack. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you from the car, rubbing your back as he sat with you on the ground.

⇨ In the distance, you could hear sirens. You wondered if they were coming to help, how soon they would be there.

⇨ "Whoa," Ransom said as you cried harder, "easy, easy. I've got you. You're gonna be fine, I promise."

⇨ When the ambulance arrived, Ransom was reluctant to let you go, holding you tight against his chest, scared that if he let you go, he'd lose you forever.

⇨ But, even he couldn't ignore the extent of your injuries, eventually letting you be loaded onto a gurney and taken into the ambulance.

⇨ "Hey Ran?" you mumbled just as they were about to shut the door.

⇨ "Yeah?"

⇨ "I love you, too."

⇨ And that was the last thing he heard you say before you were taken away.
