We all stood staring at the gate before us, as it was pulled open by a man. Aaron walked forward helping Eric inside. Eric limped out of view, as we stayed outside the gate waiting for a signal. A noise startled our group. Looking over I saw a possum run out from under a trash can. Daryl moved quickly and shot the animal. He grabbed the dead animal by its tail, as the gate fully opened revealing a man. The man stared in shock at the dead possum and then at Daryl.
"We brought dinner." Daryl held up the possum.
The man made no signs of talking and he looked mortified. Aaron noticed and stepped in.
"It's okay. Come on in guys."
We followed Aaron's order and walked inside the gated community. Daryl and I were the first inside as the group followed. The gate closed and we all looked back at it.
"Before we take this any further, I need you all to turn over your weapons. You stay, you hand them over." The man spoke, but none of us made any movement to do as he asked.
"We don't know if we want to stay." Rick answered.
"It's fine, Nicholas." Aaron turned to the man.
"If we were gonna use them, we would have started already." Rick added.
"Let them talk to Deanna first." Aaron looked back at Nicholas.
"Who's Deanna?" Abraham asked from the back of the group.
"She knows everything you'd want to know about this place." Aaron scanned the group, before his eyes landed on Rick. "Rick, why don't you start?"
Aaron began to walk, as the final part of the gate closed. We followed behind him, presumably to go to Deanna. Rick was the first to go see Deanna as we waited outside. One by one each one of us went in, when Aaron told us to. It was down to just me and Daryl, and soon he was called in. Leaving me waiting. This seemed stupid. Aaron said that Deanna was just gonna ask some questions and decide if we could stay, kind of like Rick's questions, but I had a feeling I wasn't going to like her. I needed to put on a mask though. If she decided she didn't like me and cast me out the rest of the group would follow, refusing to give me a death sentence. I needed to lie and make her like me. I needed to make it look as though I wasn't a threat. I waited thinking of what I needed to say or do. I saw Aaron step out of the house and wave me over. He held the door open as I walked in. I looked over to see a short woman standing by a couch. Seeing her height I relaxed a little, I thought she was going to be a little more intimidating. The door closed behind me and I turned to see Aaron had left. Probably to go check on Eric. Turning back to Deanna I saw no signs of my friends.
"I'm Deanna Manroe." She spoke and gestured to a seat. "Please sit."
"(Y/n) (Y/l/n)." I did as she said and sat down.
"Do you mind if I record this?"
I looked at her confused, before I noticed the camera sitting by the couch in front of me.
"Go ahead."
Deanna clicked a few buttons and sat down on the couch. I wanted to ask her my own questions. Like why film this? Where is the rest of my group? But I knew she wanted to lead the conversation, so I let her.
"How long have you been out there?"
"Since the beginning." I answered honestly.
"How did you find your group? Did you know any of them before?"
"They found me on the side of a road and saved me from a group of walkers."
Silence fell as she seemed to be thinking about something. Did she already hate me? Or was she just trying to read me?
