"...'ey," Tom answered the phone as he looked out at the streets riddled with traffic. "I thought you didn't want to talk to me."

"I know," Stella confessed. She had just gotten home from a long day at work, but since she knew Tom was in New York she figured he'd still be awake. "I know this will never work but I can't get you out of my head."

"Yeah?" He tried not to sound too enthused, but he was grateful to hear her voice and excited that she may be interested in seeing him again.

"Yeah. You're all I think about, it fucking sucks," she stressed the word sucks wishing that she could just get over him like she had every other guy she dated. Although she didn't date Tom which was maybe why she felt she had some unfinished business to tend to.

"Well thanks," Tom laughed.

"How's Brooklyn?" Stella could hear the horns and sirens in the background.

"It's ok," Tom shrugged as if she could see. "I made friends with all the dogs on set."

"What kinds of dogs are they?" Stella sat down on the couch with a beer in hand.

"Ok well one dog so far but they're all going to be these black pitbull puppies," he said, moving to sit on the floor. "I actually brought one home with me."

"Of course you did. That's what makes you so cute," Stella giggled.

"How's that now?"

"Because you just love dogs so much," Stella explained.

"I mean you're the one who works with them all the time. I've worked with one for a week."

"Well yeah, I'm cute too," Stella's voice was sweet and flirty.

"Love, you're beyond cute," he said before remembering that they didn't call each other pet names. "Are you still seeing the vet?"

"No."

"Why? What happened?"

Because I'm in love with you, Stella almost blurted out. "Because my feelings changed toward him."

"And?"

"And it wouldn't be fair to be with him when I'm picturing you instead. I mean he enjoyed it but after a while I felt bad," Stella had found Patrick to be the most perfect man at one point. She had bought special perfume and went out of her way to help him just to hopefully get him to like her. Now that he did like her, more than she expected, she had fallen for someone else. Completely head over heels for someone else's man.

"You mean, he was fine with you thinking about me?" Tom asked, surprised.

"Well in a way..." she paused, wishing she hadn't said anything. "We watched Lawless, despite my protests, and then had what he called, "amazing sex."

"Not that I really want to know the specifics, but he found it amazing, but you... not so much?"

"Uh, yeah. He loved it... but it wasn't as good as you, so it was still a let down." She knew she was pumping Tom's ego but she didn't mind. She wanted him after all and she knew he wanted her.

"Oh," Tom said, feeling relieved that this guy wasn't a better lover than him. Although he did still hate the thought of her with anyone, even though he knew he had no right to.

There was a moment of silence, both unsure of what to say. Stella wanted him to tell her he was single too but she knew that probably wasn't the case so she didn't bother asking.

"Do you want to say hi to T? He's the little pup I have with me," Tom called over the little black puppy who jumped up onto his lap and licked at his lips.
