You twirled your fingers in your lap, nervously watching the buildings fly by finally making your way out of your hometown of Gwangju on your own for the first time in your life.
You tried to distract yourself but through the four-hour train ride, all you could think about was your boyfriend waiting for you in Seoul.
You and Jimin had been dating for a while now but ever since he left his hometown and moved to Seoul to pursue his studies, it became harder for you to see him which resulted in a long distance relationship for two years now.
However, Jimin was attentive, making sure to facetime you every other day and was nice enough to send some souvenirs from Seoul when he wasn't busy.
But finally after graduating from university, you decided to make the sacrifice and conquer the big city of Seoul.
You figured it would be a great opportunity work wise and it gave you a reason to surprise Jimin with your unexpected arrival.
You were so excited that you couldn't stop imagining the type of life you’d live with Jimin in Seoul.
Where would he take you on dates? Where would you share a kiss? When would he take you to place a love lock on Namsan Tower?
You didn't care that you sounded like a high school student giggling about her first crush, you just missed him so much.
“Next stop, Seoul. Next stop, Seoul.”
The announcement snapped you out of your daydream and you quickly grabbed your luggage and waited at the door wanting to avoid the crowds of people trying to exit. You weren't used to the subway system of Seoul and honestly just the sight of the crowds made you opt for a taxi instead.
“Yonsei University please, Dormitory B.”
You smiled at the not-so-friendly taxi driver who just scoffed and pressed the meter on his dashboard before pulling onto the less busy roads.
It seems like the rumors your heard were true. The people here were indeed less friendlier than the provinces in the South, but still the city itself was breathtaking. The buildings were above the clouds, everyone was wearing the latest fashion, coffee in hand and rushing off in the streets to run their errands.
The taxi pulled up to a familiar gate. You noticed Jimin took many pictures with his friends just outside these walls. Your heartbeat sped up as you were now possibly a few feet away from your boyfriend, the closest you've been to him in two years.
“I can't drive in so you will have to get off here.”
The taxi driver tapped the meter and looked back at you annoyingly, “6,500 won please.”
You silently thanked him and handed him the money, quickly getting off with your luggage to avoid any more conflict with the bitter old man.
You turned to face the gate, unsure of how and where your impromptu plan was headed when you noticed a group of guys exit the dormitory, hoping one of them knew your boyfriend.
Upon closer inspection, you noticed one of them WAS your boyfriend, chatting away with a taller man and you felt your face heat up with the immediate sight of his cheeky grin you’ve missed so much.
“Jimin!” you yelled, unbothered to hold it in any longer and just wanted to see the look on his face when he realized that you were in front of him. You watched the man’s eyes widen and slowly approached the gate with caution, unsure if he was seeing right.
“Sora? Sora, what are you doing here?” he asked softly, to which you responded by jumping into his arms, unable to contain yourself.
He felt just like how you remembered, soft and warm. He smelled like lavender just like he always did. You breathed him in a little longer as you were missing him too much, it made your eyes sting.
A few of the guys in the back began whistling at the scene of you in Jimin’s arms. It somehow made him feel slightly uncomfortable resulting in him shimmying out of your embrace.
“Sora, w-what's going on?” Jimin pressed his lips together and looked over at your luggage, “where are you planning on staying?”
“Is that how you greet your girlfriend after so long? Don’t you miss me?” I asked, a bit disappointed.
“Of course, I missed you, b-but this is too much of a surprise and... where are you planning on staying again?”
A sharp pain hit your chest at his words, wondering why he hasn't already grabbed your luggage to take to his apartment.
“Well... I thought I could stay with you…” you hugged your chest and looked up at him.
You were truly disappointed.
Jimin sighed and placed his hands on your shoulders, rubbing small circles with his thumb to try and comfort you.
“You jolly well know I have three other guys at my place, Sora. There’s just no way I can make this work.”
His voice lack sincerity but you were too focused on where on earth you would have to stay on such notice.
“I guess I’ll look at a temporary rental nearby then...” you forced a smile and Jimin nodded.
“I think that’s for the best. Hey, I have to get to a lecture now. I’ll check up on you later, okay?”
His words were not what you expected after reuniting after so long but you were so tired your feelings would just have to be set aside for today. Afterall, you couldn't blame him entirely since this was all a surprise to him anyway.
You watched Jimin rejoin his group of friends and you took a seat on your suitcase pulling up an app for apartment rentals. You were grateful to have saved enough to rent for a bit but you’d have to find a job as soon as possible if it meant living in Seoul for at least a couple of months.
Scrolling through the app, you sighed at the prices of the microsized apartments that were costing more than a house in Gwangju.
Finally, a quaint two bedroom apartment had caught your eyes and it was currently open for viewing. Having nothing else to do and desperately needing a roof over your head for the night, you called a cab and headed over to the apartment location.
