AUTHORS NOTE

·

This is part two of Farewell.

Shout out to insomnia-addict for helping me decide which part to finish and for the nice comments. It means a lot. Just wanted to mention that even though I write a lot about Giyuu, he's not even my favourite character. For reference, my favourite character is actually either Genya, Muichiro or Yushiro. And I may or may not simp for Daki, Mitsuri, Shinobu, and basically every KnY girl, you'll never know.I'm sorry for writing so much angst, but fluffy ideas are really hard for me to come up with. So if you want me to write fluff, the best way is to request it.. ❞

-The next day, half past noon at the Ubuyashiki estate-

"It is uncharacteristic of Tomioka to be this late, don't you think? He would have informed us if he was unable to make it." Shinobu said in her normal sickeningly sweet voice. She was often making fun of Giyuu for everything from his lack of interaction with the others to the fact that it seemed that he had no friends at all.

"Kyaa! I really hope he's okay!" Mitsuri squeaked, gaining an irritated grumble about Tomioka from Obanai.

He was absolutely not okay. He was dead, in his house, lying in a puddle of his own blood. He had been deceased for a few hours already. But they didn't know this, at least not quite yet. But they would find out soon enough. And when they would they would be in for quite the shocker.

"You're right," Ubuyashiki's soft voice echoed. "We should check on him."

The pillars thought that he was being just a little over-concerned. But went along with it because they all had the upmost reverence for Oyakata-sama. They simply lingered as Ubuyashiki pondered something.

"Kyojuro, why don't you check Giyuu's estate, it's not too far from here."

"Alright! I will not fail to check on the water pillar!" Kyojuro's enthusiastic voice practically shouted. He was always like this, eager and dedicated. It seemed that not much of anything could quite temper his usual mood.

Kyojuro leapt up and he bowed towards Ubuyashiki before immediately striding briskly down the quickest path towards the water pillar's property. As he neared the entrance, he was picking up on all the little details. Details like that there was no sign of break in. If it was any earlier in the day Kyojuro would have just assumed that Giyuu had just accidentally slept in way later than he meant, but it was after noon and that was pretty late to sleep for a high ranking demon slayer that had things to do.

He gets up to the door, it is locked. Not too surprising though, Giyuu is a demon slayer after all. When he knocks the first time there is no response, just silence. Even when he knocked as loudly as he could without damaging the door all that greeted him was stillness.

He kicks down the door with not too much obstruction, he would have to apologize for that later. But for now, guaranteeing Giyuu's well-being was his higher priority than Giyuu's estate.

The eerie silence that consumes the space inside the water pillar's estate is suffocating. It takes on a solid form of space, discouraging all from entering. It seems, to Kyojuro, to be devoid of all life. The only sounds to be heard are the flame pillar's breathing and footsteps on the wood flooring.

He walks through the deserted hallway, realizing just how bleak this place was. It really reflected the water pillar's personality, in Kyojuro's opinion. But he couldn't see how someone could live in it.

As he was distracted by the sheer boringness and cold of the place he was in, he didn't notice the distinct iron smell that spilt blood brought. The further in he got, the sharper the scent.

He thought back to when he was approaching the house, he hadn't seen any indications of a break in. Was it possible that somehow a demon made its way into here and attacked the water pillar while he was sleeping?

He nears a doorway and notices something off, there is a pool of blood that has leaked out of the room. He curses mentally and rapidly advances closer to where he saw the blood. There was a lot of it, whoever's it was was probably dead by now. Which meant if it was Giyuu's...

He utters profanity as he sees a body laying there, unmoving and looking suspiciously like a certain closed off water pillar. He drops down quickly into a crouch, reaching two of his fingers to Giyuu's neck to desperately try to feel for a pulse that he finds isn't there.

How could he be dead, he was a pillar of all people. He wouldn't get beaten by a demon so easily, and he certainly wasn't asleep when he got fatally wounded. That's when he noticed the exact source of the blood. His wrist, oh, his wrist. It was pretty much the definition of shredded.

Kyojuro's mouth ran dry. Giyuu's wrist was all sliced up, horizontally and vertically. And the blade that had likely inflicted the damage was lying all too near to his other hand to be a coincidence.

The flame pillar stands still, he was having difficulty putting the truths together and coming to the judgment that Giyuu killed himself.

He didn't like it, didn't like that in hindsight, someone should've noticed that Giyuu was probably depressed. It wasn't uncommon for demon slayers to have an unpleasant past, so why did they conclude that the water pillar was disrespectful instead of maybe just having attachment issues.

He didn't like how mean they all were towards him. They all might've played a role in what pushed him to do this.

He quickly exits the house, he isn't the one suited for dealing properly with his dead body. He jogs his way back towards where the meeting is, mentally composing himself to break the news to the rest of the pillars. He wasn't eager.

When he gets there they all look at him expectantly.

"So, did you find him? I notice that he is not with you." Uzui the sound pillar inquires.

"I... found him." Kyojuro responds quietly, which in itself told a lot to the pillars who were used to seeing him be so bright about nearly everything.

"And..?" One of them urged him on.

"He's dead, I found him lying in a puddle of his own blood." To say the alarm written across their faces was evident would be and understatement. It was very apparent that this was not quite the statement they were expecting.

"What demon did this?" Shinobu asks.

"No demon, Tomioka did this to himself."

I know that it says that this one is the second and last part of this story but it's not exactly. I have a special chapter in progress that is kinda linked to this one, but I'm just gonna seperate it a bit unless I decide to make it a part three.
