Chapter two

I spent almost an hour with Caleb and Jesse being torn between waiting tables and putting a table next to another, preparing the long large table for the huge crowd to hit us. Finally finishing up the last touches, although we didn't rest, we still waited tables for other clients that came, but it was less tiring.

It's now almost 4 pm, so they probably are about to come, I just hope David wouldn't throw serving their 'table' at me.

They did come after a little while, and luckily for me and not so much for poor Jesse, she was the one to serve. They were all wearing very formal clothes, like business men and women or something of that kind.

It was kind of funny seeing a young guy among them, shifting in his seat from time to time, obviously uncomfortable to be there. He seems to be in his early twenties, he was not suited up like all of the men at the table. With the black jeans that were hanging low on his hips, the plain white shirt and the black leather jacket complementing his also black combat boots , the least I can say is that he looked way out of place.

I was taking some calls for reservations when I felt a presence near me. I looked up and in front of me was the young guy that I noticed being uncomfortable earlier.

"Yes ma'am, yes, 8 pm. Thank you, have a nice evening." He was looking at me expectantly, "how may I help you, sir?" I asked the young man in front of me. He just stared blankly, obviously not staring at me. It's just as if he was thinking and not aware of what's around him for  seconds. "Sir?" I waved my hand lightly in front of him to wake him of his little daydream. "Right" he looked almost as if he was irritated, "where's the bathroom? I went around and couldn't find it" he said dryly. There's no 'can you please show me where the bathroom is?' I thought to myself, then again look who's talking.

"Follow me for a bit it's right there." I said while walking, he was right behind me, I stopped and he obviously knew it was because we got to the bathroom so he walked past me and went in, not even a little thank you. By now if I wasn't at work and forced to be 'nice' he would've gotten a different attitude.

I went back to get my work done, waiting second by second for the time to pass so that my shift ends and I can go home. Working full time is tiring but it pays enough for me as I live by myself and I have a very quiet life now, plus it has its kind of a good side, it keeps me occupied. It takes my mind off things.

The restaurant started to be filled even more, I served some more customers before it was time for me to go home. I changed and was ready to go when my boss David called for me.

"as embarrassing as it is, this is for you" I looked at the card in his hand confused, "it's from the guy right there" he was trying to show me without pointing his finger at the guy, he was a suited up guy from the huge table, as I like to call it.

I nodded " okay, thanks." I said and  turned on my heels walking out of the restaurant's door throwing the small card in the first bin that I found in my way.

I couldn't care less about some rich guy who probably all he wants is to bang me for the night. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being judgmental. Okay, probably a little. But I just can't have some stupid bullshit adding up in my life.

And either way there's no point, I don't do relationships or dating or whatever they call it.

I shut my apartment door behind me, done the usual. As in ate, got in bed and listened to music until I drifted into sleep. Music, for years, has been the one thing that calmed me and took my mind off the thoughts that my mind decides to haunt me with.

Two weeks had passed ever so slowly, I've seen Catherine a couple of times in which she kept telling me to go find a job that I'd like to pursue a career in. She never liked that I waited tables and never applied for jobs where I can practice what I studied in university.

Truth is, she's probably right. I need to move my lazy ass if I want to start building a career that I want.

I might start doing as she told me. At least for now, I can start by looking in the employment section in the newspapers, and  job offers on the internet. I emailed my CV to a lot of companies and so, the rest I will probably go to their buildings to ensure they see my CV and consider my qualifications and hopefully give me an appointment for an interview and things go smoothly, I'm not the greatest person in communication shit, so yeah.

I applied for secretarial positions and personal assistance mostly. You know, the jobs where you get to see everything going right in front of you, being in meetings and conferences with your boss, I want to learn closely. More and more by practice, so when the day comes for me to be in a position I want, I'll know all about business techniques.

I did learn everything I have to learn in university of course, but it's different and way better to have everything going into practice in front of you. Not to flatter myself, but I've always been a smartass in my education, I enjoyed what I studied.

Sunday evening, do I need to say more? I've been sitting on my living room's couch almost all day watching TV, switching from channel to channel hoping to find something good to watch. No such luck.

So I turned it off and went to make something to eat for my grouchy stomach to be satisfied. I went straight to my fridge and ended up with knitted eyebrows and a groan coming out of my mouth, my fridge was almost empty.

"Fuck" I muttered to myself. I mean duh of course to myself, I'm alone to who else would it be.

Now I can wait till tomorrow to shop for groceries, but hell I'm too hungry right now. My mind kept swinging whether to order pizza and get it over with or to go eat outside and also go grocery shopping. I decided against the first option for I came to the conclusion that it's Sunday and it'd probably be the only time I would have time to do that kind of thing as I work full-time during the week.

So I changed, took my car keys and went to a coffee shop about two miles away from where I live. I always go there, it's calm and the food is so good. I parked my car a bit far from it so I'd have the chance to walk and enjoy the November breeze. Yes, I love cold weather so much that I enjoy when it's freezing cold. Weird, I know.

I got in and greeted the oldish lady working there, "Sam! it's good to see you again. You didn't come here for a while now." She said smiling widely at me, with one hand on my upper arm.

I felt uncomfortable with her motherly eyes looking at me the way she always does. "Yeah, I've been kind of busy with work" I said trying to avoid her gaze, it's like she looks through my eyes and deep down my soul and it makes me want to turn my eyes to look anywhere but hers.

She nodded smiling that sweet smile of hers and I took that as the end of this little chat, I nodded in return with a little smile and went to sit in a booth by the window. I sat down and she came right after me, "Do want me to get you the menu or will you take the usual?" She asked smiling, "I'll take the usual" I returned the smile. "The usual it is". And with that she turned around to leave me with my thoughts.

I looked out the window into the beautiful green land, there was a park behind this little place, not usual but very likable.

She quickly came back with my double cheese hamburger with the extra fries. I immediately started eating, probably like a maniac. Can't blame me, I am so hungry.

I probably didn't look up the whole time, because when I did, my breath was caught in my throat, my eyes met with ones I've seen not long ago. And I have no idea why my inner unconscious self decided to react that way. I looked away casually as if I didn't recognize him, he was sitting alone in the booth across from me. The rude fucker from the huge table.
