- Tay's POV -
I look at the man sitting quietly in the passenger seat, watching the rain through the window. He feels bad, and so do I.
I prayed for this day to be perfect. Well, maybe not perfectly perfect, but I certainly didn't expect it to be the worst first date in history!
He was already sulking when I picked him up this afternoon, and I understand why. That was somewhat my fault. Sort of. I have my reasons for not kissing him, which I now regret, especially since I don't know if I'll ever get the chance again.
Saying that today was a disaster is an understatement. First, we watched a movie apart! Argh! I kept glancing at him during the film, and it was clear that he wasn't enjoying it. I certainly wasn't either. I desperately wanted to sit beside him and try that classic move where you stretch your arm and then let it drop onto your date's shoulder.
As if that wasn't enough, fate played another cruel trick on us. A little kid spilled his popcorn all over Newwiee. Tsk. If Newwiee would have let me, I would have smacked that kid's head for being so careless. Yeah, I never let anyone off easily, even if it's a child. Those little devils can get away with a lot! But I held back, thinking Newwiee might get turned off by my reaction.
After he returned from the restroom, he only gave me a small smile and didn't talk to me until we left the building. Of course, I tried to salvage the day! I took him to a high-end restaurant, and I saw his face light up—not just because I was treating him to a nice meal, but because he was about to eat. Newwiee loves food, and I find that endearing.
But really, it seemed like fate was against me. As soon as our orders arrived, the waiter tripped and spilled the shrimp pasta all over him. Him. Again.
What the fuck, universe?!
No! I'm not taking this as a sign not to date him again!
I really like this guy.
Now maybe I can't save the day, but I'm definitely going to save this night.
I turn on my car speaker and connect it to my phone via Bluetooth. I scroll through my Spotify playlist and choose just the perfect song. I set the volume to maximum.
I open the door to my side, about to alight the car when Newwie turns to me.
"Hey, where are you going?" His forehead is creased and his eyes look a bit red.
He's been crying.
I hate it.
"You'll see," I smile at him and get out of the car. I circle in the front and go to his side. I open his door and see him looking at me all confused.
"What are you doing, Tay? It's raining hard! Get back inside!"
"Get out of the car and join me!" I grin widely and hold out my right hand.
"What? Why? Tay! Its -"
"Join me, New!" I shout, trying to dominate the loud sound of rain hitting the ground.
I see New hesitate a bit before he takes my hand and gets out.
I close the door behind him, with the window a little bit open for us to hear Foolish Heart by Steve Perry playing inside my car.
"Is this your way of telling me I stink and that I need a shower?" New questions, followed by a laugh.
"Maybe?" I tease as I take both his hands. I raise his right hand and twirl him.
He laughs loudly at the action and I laugh, too.
His laughter is truly contagious.
I guide his arms and wrap them around my neck while I wrap my arms around his waist.
