Worry About The Future

Maes wasn't sure what to think about his current situation.

After his visitors started showing up in pairs and he's seen so many of his old friends he was sure that they didn't lie about being in Central. The view out of the window was clearly Amestrian too.

Which left him with another question. What happened while his mind turned off? He was too afraid to ask. What would happen if Master found out that he spoke without permission? He already pushed his luck with Edward, but he gave him presents and Maes didn't want to make him mad. Master usually liked when he got on his knees to thank her and then go to her bedroom. He didn't know which reaction Edward preferred, though. He just said, he wanted to make Maes happy, which... was a bit confusing.

What if he would want something later on? And what would Master say? She'll kill him. Whatever happen to Master? And what will happen to him and his children?

They told him that his kids were safe in Resembool, but he couldn't be sure, not until he sees them. For all, he knew they could be lying to him and his children could still be in Drachma. Edward said they could call them once he'll be ready to go out of his room.

Maes wasn't sure if it would ever happen. What if beyond the room was the mansion and all of this was a crazy dream or a cruel joke?

Edward on the other hand was another matter altogether because Maes couldn't figure out if he was the most trustworthy person that visited or soon to be another nightmare.

They told him he would stay at Edward's house, once the renovations will be finished, and he'll be well enough to travel. He's going to be one-on-one with him from then on. Maes didn't count the kids, he had to keep them safe.

It was true that Edward was nothing but nice for the entire time since  Maes woke up, but there were other people visiting as well and doctors and nurses came in to check on him. What if Edward's behavior will change when they'll be truly alone?

He didn't have any good reason to help Maes. Not really. And Maes didn't have anything to offer in return for the kindness. He was just a dirty, used-up toy.

Which brought up another question. If Master really wouldn't take him back... Did that mean that Edward would take her place?

He didn't want to think about it. He had all those old memories of Edward as a child saving a train, having a birthday party, and battling Roy on parade grounds... Part of him couldn't imagine that Ed would ever get such an idea. But on the other hand, there was nothing else Maes could be useful for.

He hugged his new plushie. He shouldn't have it, he was an adult and he shouldn't seek comfort in a toy. And yet it somehow provided it.

He was so scared of what will come next.

Goddess, he needed a smoke.

At least if Master was here, he would know what to expect.

„You would think, that she changed her code after I left, but no, it's still the same,” Van rubbed the back of his neck „Surprising.”

„Maybe she didn't want to,” Al sat down on an armchair „It doesn't seem like she ever got over you.”

„But I got over her. That should be enough,” Van sighed and took off his glasses to rub his eyes „Do you know where Edward is? He should be here with us.”
