A knock on the door made me stir awake. My blue eyes settled on the door at the front of the room while it opened at a slow rate. A mop of pure brown hair came into view, next light green eyes. "Good morning Akashi, all the other kids woke up already. Are you feeling any better?"
I turned to face the woman, my feet hanging off the hard bed I've been sleeping in for months. "Yes Marry, I just feel a little sick that's all." I replied while tilting my head towards the window.
With a tiny smile, the woman nodded and walked into the room. She placed a plastic tray on the communal desk and took a seat in one of the other beds. I have been in an orphanage for almost half a year.
The transition between having everything and having nothing was still taking it's toll on me. Though... I still have something.
"Would you like me to stay with you today Akashi?" Marry asked me. Marry is the head of the orphanage, she is a very nice woman who treats kids well. All the workers here are nice, it makes my dim situation a little brighter.
The place is small, with only seven or so kids crowding the area. The kids here seem ok as well, but of course none have my attention.
"No, it's ok, I like being alone." I muttered back. Marry gave me a worried look, it's the same look she has been giving me since I first came here. She placed her hand on my mostly white hair and stroked it.
The shock of my parents' death caused my raven locks to turn white. Slowly, the white hair is being pushed out by my black roots. I kinda like the look though... It reminds me of a certain someone.
Marry removed her hand, her eyes straining to hold back tears. She cleared her throat, "ah yes of course." Her loss of weight made the bed shift as she headed towards the door.
Before she left, she gave me one more glance. "Akashi... there is someone interested in adopting you."
The news made a sudden pain spark in my stomach. It felt as if someone took my stomach and churned the acids out of it. Marry flinched, but before she could run to my aid, I spoke. "Later. Let's talk about this later."
After that, the brunette left me alone with my thoughts. I sat by the window, watching the sun inch across the sky. A few kids would pass by my window. Either to get a ball or because they were playing tag around the large house.
When night came, the kids returned to the room, a few spoke to me. I was too tired to be snippy. I guess to them I looked sick, pale, getting closer and closer to death.
I hated it.
I hated the pity and attention they gave me. Every second of it.
Soon enough, everyone went to their designated beds to sleep. I stayed on mine, staring at the same window. Marry thinks I do this because the night sky attracts me, but it wasn't the night sky.
A pair of golden orbs reflected in the glass. I blinked a few times before realizing who it was. With shaky hands, I opened the window. Everyone was asleep so I had to be as quiet as possible.
Soft winds pressed against my face, causing my eyes to squeeze shut. "Kou..." I mumbled while opening them. The gray-haired boy smiled at me, "are you coming or what?"
With an eager nod, I crawled out the window and stepped outside. Me and Kou have been sneaking out ever since I've gotten here. The fact that the two of us haven't been caught yet is a miracle.
