I woke up after maybe an hour of sleep, my dorm wasn't soundproofed so I could hear every student's breath, murmurs, snores, heartbeats, and even farts, throughout the night. So safe to say I didn't get much sleep, I could feel the last two nights without sleep wearing at me. I got out of one of the two beds in mine and Jack's dorm, went to look through my dorm's closet, and scoffed at the uniform inside. A black dress jacket with the school insignia, plain white dress shirt, a black tie or bow tie, complete with plaid pants? Gross. I doubt I could get away with not wearing any uniform so I put on the pants, and shirt, and loosely put on the tie. I grabbed my hat and overcoat and left the room. I don't have my guns or belt as they were in a mobile locker that could deploy to me, I'd rather just keep them on me but I doubt Ozpin would allow it. My first class was a history class/Grimm training with Professor Port, I've always been interested in history, just not enough to take a class on it. As I sat through a boring lecture on Port's glory days, struggling to stay awake, he finally piped up that he had a challenge for us.
"Who here would like to rise to the challenge?" he asked with a curious glance
Weiss stood up quickly and raised her hand "I am ready,"
Jack stood up as well "So would my friend here," he said pointing to me, I quickly grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back down.
"Very well, I do have a couple of grim at my disposal," he said excitedly at the prospect of the challenge "Both of you grab your gear,"
"Dammit, Jack" I sighed
I waited on the side of the classroom and examined the duel closely. Ruby was shouting encouragement to her teammate as Weiss got into a fighting stance, she was adjusting it making it clear she was nervous. I could hear her heartbeat spike as her team shouted encouragement, particularly Ruby.
"Ruby, I'm trying to focus," She snapped, I narrowed my eyes at her, she's obviously irritated by how things played out at the team assignment's ceremony. I leaned into a corner and watched patiently as a Boarbatusk was released from the cage. The grim charged her and she quickly dodged it and struck it across the side, doing minimal damage, but a good dodge/counter-attack nonetheless. She then went for a reckless lunge and got hit in the side by its tusks lodging her rapier in its tusks in the process, as Ruby shouted more encouragement. I wouldn't exactly be thrilled at shoutouts from the stands during the fight, but I still wouldn't have lost focus like that.
"Interesting tactic," Port observed like an idiot. Weiss and the boar wrestled for control of the weapon and Weiss was quickly overpowered and disarmed as she was once again distracted by Ruby.
"Get your head in the game," I thought quietly as she was knocked away from the grim.
"Ho-ho now what will you do without your weapon?" Port asked as I put my hand on my revolver, I looked over at Ruby and saw nothing but a legitimate interest in supporting her teammate.
The boarbatusk charged again and she rolled away as it ran past. She quickly got up and retrieved her weapon
"Weiss, go for its underbelly. Its armor is-" Ruby began, actually giving solid advice.
"STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO DO," She shouted, interrupting her leader.
That's it, I drew my revolver and aimed it at the grim preparing to take it out. As I put my thumb on the hammer Professor Port's hand laid on top of my barrel pushing it down. Fast old man.
"Y/n, do not get involved," He said calmly "This is a teachable moment,"
I nodded and holstered my revolver as the boarbatusk went into a roll, and was deflected by a glyph. Weiss quickly lept into the air bounced off another glyph and jumped into the grim impaling it through the underbelly with her sword, ending the fight.
