you sat on the bench for a while, stunned into silence. you wanted to say something so desperately, yet no words could leave your mouth.
why? why couldn't you speak? why couldn't you answer his simple question?
it was a yes or no question. it was either 'yes, i want you to be that person for me' or 'no, i don't want you to be that person'. it was as easy as that. yet it seemed to be the hardest thing anyone's ever asked you to do.
you stared the ground, lips forming into a pout as you continued to think about your decision. akaashi on the other hand was only getting more nervous by the second.
why hadn't you responded yet? at this point, he'd settle for a simple nod of the head. but that action didn't come to you. it was just awkward silence,
you don't know what overcame you but your words left your mouth before you could even process what you were about to say.
"keiji...do you want to know why i ended this?" while akaashi already knew why you ended things, there seemed to have been more to what you were going to say, so he shook his head no.
"it's because you seemingly had no trust in me. i know mai left you for some nohebi upperclassman but i would never do that. to you or to anyone, the fact that you thought i was 'cheating' on you with kenma hurt. a lot more than i thought it would."
akaashi looked at you, you still refused to make eye contact with him. you knew that once you looked at his eyes, you'd forgive him in an instant and one thing you knew was that you definitely didn't want to do that. you had been too stubborn to just forgive him with a snap of the fingers.
"f/n, i never meant to offend you. i never knew my words would have such a big effect on you, you have to believe me on this please," he was pleading, he sounded desperate to you. akaashi knew he sounded desperate but he didn't care, all he wanted was you.
"i can't be sure of that keiji. how do i know for certain that you're not gonna accuse me of cheating on you again? how do i know for certain that you really trust me?" now it was akaashi's turn to be stunned to silence.
to you, a verbal confession wasn't enough for you. your whole life, you always needed an act to prove that the words someone said to you were really true. akaashi was no exception to this rule of yours.
you waited for a couple of minutes for akaashi to respond to your questions, that awkward silence making its appearance once again. then it was like a lightbulb went off in his head.
