"this argument's a cherry bomb"

i wait silently in the stall, holding onto the rope containing hundreds of cockroaches ready to be dumped at any time now. when the time comes, the entire bucket will tip over and scare the shit out of sheila.

nick's plan was to trick sheila into walking into the bathroom, then we dump the cockroaches on her head when she goes into the stall. ziggy and i decided we would write a fake letter to her from "will" and say that he wanted her to meet him in the stall, but really, she's going on a date with some cockroaches.

the door to the outhouse creaks, signaling that sheila's walked in. i can see the top of her head as she grins and follows the petals through the hall. her voices rises an octave and she starts talking "seductively", "will! this is too cute." she exclaims as she looks at the candles surrounding her and the flower petals resting under her feet.

"we could've done it in your bunk but, i guess this is kinda hot.." she trails off as the romantic music plays. i hold in my snort and turn to ziggy, seeing her laughing with nick as lays a hand on her shoulder.

i stare at nick as my face falls, but quickly snap out of it so he doesn't notice. looking down at the thick rope scratching my hands, i watch as she walks into the stall besides me and picks up the note we set out for her. she looks at it and reads,

look up, xoxo - the witches

her head snaps up with a snarl and i yank harshly on the rope causing the bucket to tip over releasing her night full of love. the cockroaches fall down and land on her face as i leap from my hiding position. "go, go, go!" ziggy laughs as i run out of the stall and look back with a smile on my face.

once we escape the outhouse, nick closes the door and locks it securely with a screwdriver. sheila's yelps are heard as we run from the outhouse leaving her behind, not regretting a thing.

we've been hanging out in our bunk ever since our fun with sheila. and of course, nick the sunnyvale king lays across ziggy's bed. ziggy stands up and brushes her corduroy shorts down, "i've gotta grab something from the art house, be right back." she shoots a smile towards me and nick sits up opening his mouth but is interrupted by the slam of the door.

he turns to me and i play with the stereo as the song "cherry bomb" plays by the runaways. i look up at the sound of footsteps heading towards me. nick sits down next to me and i shift uncomfortably wondering why the proximity between us has gotten so small. "could i ask you something?" nick asks as i lift my head from the buttons on the stereo.

"sure." i say as i turn the music down a little bit, lifting my hand from the knob. "is ziggy dating someone? like do you like her? i heard what sheila called you earlier.." he trails off as i freeze at what he asked, my mind goes blank and i just want to curl up in a hall and die. "uh, no she's not dating anyone." i say quietly as he smiles immediately.

"great."

"so you're gonna ask her out then? really?" i ask baffled by his confidence. the police have been boosting his morale way too much. "well, yeah. you just said she's not dating anyone. does she like someone else?" he questions as his eyebrows furrow.

"well, no. but she's shadyside, you're sunnyvale. we don't mix." i comment trying to think of an excuse so that he wouldn't ask her out. "so?" he says shrugging his shoulders. i wipe my nose and shake my head, "it just...it wouldn't work." i sigh.

"you're just jealous." he scoffs. i turn my head and chew on the inside of my cheek, "are you fucking serious?" he turns to me with a sneer, "yeah. i've seen you glaring at me. you want to date her, but she would never like you." he snaps out of anger, his nostrils flaring.

"you're a jackass." i dictate, staring at him hardly.

"and you're a bitch. and you're full of shit." he rebukes. i sigh and shake my head trying to keep my cool, "just don't ask her out!" he runs a hand through his hair, "why! i want to date her! you understand? i will ask her out and she might say yes." he enunciated as if i'm a dummy.

"fuck you." i scoff as i turn off my record player quickly and swing the door open. the cool night air reaches me and my eyes begin to sting. he doesn't think she likes me.

does she?

is she even gay? or bi? or anything?

she probably likes him, he's sunnyvale. he's perfect. he can support her if she wants a family...

a tear slips out of my eye as i walk over to the art cabin searching for ziggy. i quickly wipe it away trying to hide any form of her. reaching the cabin, i see nick run up to ziggy. shit. i jog over there and stop in front them as nick glares at me. "sarah? what's wrong? nick said you got in an argument." ziggy asks, her tone laced with concern, as she walks over to me.

of course nick fucking told her. bet he told her more too. "follow me." i mumble to her as she tells nick to stay there.

here goes nothing...
