     chapter 3

I get home, exhausted from the day, but happy with how it ended. Adrien's here. In New York. My thoughts are consumed by him and only him, it keeps me awake but also puts me right to sleep.

"MEOWWWWW"

"Ugh" I open my eyes slowly, getting blinded by the morning sun. My mouth is dry, and my voice sounds hoarse.

"Plagg hold on" I know it was him that woke me up. Tikki is a quiet kitty, Plagg on the other hand is demanding, and loud. He must be hungry. I sit up, and stretch, the two kitties looking at me, craving their yummy food.
"Yeah yeah hold on I'm getting there" I yawn getting up, walking to the fridge to get they're food.
"Here ya go you crazies" they both run and start devouring their food. I grab a bowl and cereal, getting milk from the fridge I eat as fast as them. Today I have off work, but that means it's a chore and running errands day.
"Adrien"
I stop everything I'm doing, I jump up and rush to grab my phone. I rip the charger out and look through my notifications. I take a glance at the time,
9:13am
I start to feel hopeless, I mean why would he text me so soon? But then I see it.

Adrien
Goodmorning Mari! Sorry I didn't text you last night, I was just so exhausted. I was wondering if you wanted to get lunch today around 12? Hope you slept well:)

My heart skips a beat from his text. It's so cute!!!! Alya would be freaking out if we were in 10th grade. I chuckle at the thought. I miss her so much.

I put my phone down for a few seconds, feeling butterflies in my stomach, why? Who knows. Maybe I never got over my little crush. I look back and it already says read. I scream and throw my phone down to see him typing. Jeez I need to stop acting like a 16 year old.
I get up, putting on a super cute outfit, it's partly cloudy today with no rain, but a slight breeze.
I look in the mirror admiring myself, a cute baby pink top, with grey sweats, my hair in a bun to keep it out of my face. Just a simple look for a simple day. I look at my watch, it's around 10am, two hours until I meet Adrien.
"Well kitties time to clean!"
I connect my phone to my speakers, and turn on my cleaning playlist.

Dishes, litter, laundry, garbage, and sweeping.
Done in a little over an hour. Perfect timing to take a shower, I didn't realize I'd break a sweat from this, at least the place is clean. I'm in and out of the shower, blow drying my hair doesn't take long, but I decided to change my outfit. Not that I'm trying to dress to impress, but sweats Mari? I laugh at myself, grabbing a cute outfit from my closet.
11:15am
Adrien sent the address a while back, but I didn't bother to open it yet.
It's a cute coffee shop within walking distance, it's a nice day out so I decided to walk. Why not show up a little early and work on designs?
"Bye kitties!" I grab my purse and lock my front door, making sure I have everything I happily walk out of my apartment building.
So many smells hit me as I walk down the sidewalks, the busy New York streets are so familiar to me now. I love it here.
I walk into the coffee shop, finding a booth in the back of the shop. I like to be aware of my surroundings, especially after being ladybug, it's just instinct.
"What can I get started for you today" a waitress comes over with a warm smile.
"Oh I'm just waiting on someone, I'm a bit early, I'll just have a water for now please"
"Ah okay I understand darling, I'll be right back with that"
"Thank you" I smile gladly, she seems like a very kind lady.
I pull out my designs, some of the ones I finished yesterday, and newer ones, hell I could even start fresh.
"Oh no! Can we have a towel!" I hear someone yell across the diner. Spilt coffee. Luckily it wasn't hot, that poor lady, she was wearing white.
Inspiration hits. Weird clothes are in, they always have been. What about a line of coffee stained clothes. I giggle at the idea, but start drawing to my heart's content.
I lost track of time, focusing on this brand new idea.

"Well looks like you'vel been here for awhile"
I flinched at his voice, no one interrupted me. I didn't even notice the waitress give me my water.
"Oh hey Adrien!" I got up and hugged him, which I think he didn't expect, but he didn't complain.
"Oh uh yeah I finished my chores a little early, so I thought I'd sit and work a bit" I smile sitting down, as he does across from me.
"May I see?"
"My designs?" I blush a little
"Of course silly" he snickers at me, my face flushes red.
"Oh uh yeah here" I show him some older stuff, rather than my coffee stain idea.
"Still as amazing in highschool, wow" he looks at me and we lock eyes,
"Uh thank you" I barely manage to say, our eyes still locked.
"Ready to order now?" The waitress breaks the intense moment, I'm glad she did before it got awkward.
"Yes" I say smiling.
"I'll have a blt with fries please."
"Alright, and for you sir?"
"I'll have a bowl of chili, with water please"
"Alrighty we'll get right on that"
"Thank you" Adrien and I say in unison causing us to both giggle.
"So... catching up huh?"
"What do you wanna talk about?" he raises an eyebrow at me.
"Okay the juicy stuff right away. Love life after I left?"
He laughs at my response, earning a smile from me.
One point for Mari!
"There really wasn't much of one. Not to sound rude, but no one seemed good enough. They knew I had looks and money so I could see right through them."
"Ugh that sounds SO shitty. I hadn't even thought about that. I know Lila and Chloe were totally in love with your looks in highschool"
"Yeah it's pretty shitty, but it comes with the contract I guess."
"I never liked you for your looks might I say proudly"

"W-what? You liked me!? And wow you didn't like my looks?"
My face is a dark crimson red. Highschool Marinette would have never said that.
"NO uh erm I mean uh, yes I did like you I'm surprised you couldn't tell" I hide my face with my arm
"Do continue Ms. Dupain-Cheng"
"Oh shush, I had a silly crush so what. And I did like you for your looks, I mean you're absolutely gorgeous. But it wasn't just your looks Adrien''
He's staring at me, with what looks like confusion, and happiness.
"How long."
"How long what?" I scoff
"How long did you have this "crush" on me"
"about that...maybe like since 8th grade until we graduated"
"WHAT!? You were in love with me Mari" he laughs, and I scoff again.
"Oh shut up Agreste. You were to full of yourself to even realize so shut it"
The waitress sets down our food before he can say anything else.
"Thank you" we both say in unison again.
"Hope you guys enjoy"
We converse in more small talk, eating our food, talking about New York, fashion, the weather.
"Have you talked to Alya and Nino lately?" He asks me putting his spoon down.
"Oh yeah actually, a few days ago I talked to Alya, they're doing great! She thinks Nino is gonna propose soon"
"Ouuuuu I could see it happening. The first day he hung out with her he fell in love with her."
I daydream about that day, I locked them in a cage at the zoo. My thoughts move to him.
"Mari are you okay"
"Uh yeah I'm fine" I fake a smile.
"Okay, I haven't talked to them in a hot second but I will soon"
I smile and nod still thinking about Chat. It's been 5 years and somehow my thoughts still scribble to him.
"Well Marinette I had a wonderful time, I'm glad we caught up but I have a meeting I have to be getting too"
"Oh yeah for sure, I had a fun time, we should definitely hang out again soon."
The waitress comes over with the bill and we both reach for it.
"Mari"
"Adrien"
We say each others names at the same time.
"Let me, I asked you out"
"No come on exactly, so I'll pay"
"No"
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
We're practically fighting over the check until he gets it from my grasp.
"Ugh fine I'm paying next time"
"Sure Mari, if it helps you sleep at night
"Oh shut up" he leaves cash, and a big tip.
"Shall I walk you to your car?" he said in a British accent which made me laugh.
"I walked here, so unless you want to walk to my house, then no, not this time"
"What? How far did you walk"
"No biggie, like 3 miles" I smiled at him.
"May I take you home then?"
"I can walk it's fine, don't you have a meeting Mr. Agreste"
"Oh shit yeah, but I could still give you a ride home Mari" he says with a hopeful grin.
"I'll take you up on the offer next time" I give him a cheeky smile
"Okay fine, I am gonna be so late, text you later?"
"Of course"
No hug goodbye this time, I found myself yearning for his touch again. Hoping he'd text me in the blink of an eye.
I can't believe I told him about my crush on him..er um I mean crush I had on him.
