Ship: Crime Photos (Shuichi x Mahiru)

Shuichi POV (third person)

Shuichi closed the door to the police car he and his partner, Kyoko Kirigiri, arrived at the scene of the crime in. It was a good neighborhood, but built in the wrong side of town.

A murder had taken place in a two story house, the living room and kitchen in disarray. Kyoko went to her duties right away, examining the living room couch and knife rack.

Shuichi on the other hand, decided to get the testimonies of those that lived in the house. Starting off with the mother, who claimed she and her daughter were out on a midnight drive, going to the park to take pictures and such.

They left the father harm since he was asleep on the couch with a beer in his hand when they left, he was a bulky older man, probably in his late 40s.

He was rough, and had a temper, according to the mother. He seemed the type to have a few enemies, possibly at work.

Saihara got all the information he could out of the mother until it became too much for her and she needed a breather. Kyoko signaled Saihara to follow her out of the house, to which he listened.

The mother and daughter were sitting on the porch, the daughter, a pretty red-headed young woman with a camera around her neck, doing her best to calm her mother down.

Kirigiri and Saihara a little ways in front of the house, Kyoko began explaining her findings. "There is obvious signs of forced entry, our killer might've broken a window. There's glass scattered around kitchen floor and we can deduce they broke a window to exit the house." She nodded her head to the broken window at the front of the house.

Shuichi nodded, "According to the wife's testimony, our victim here was left alone. Our timeframe is between 11pm to 12am."

Kyoko wrote down Shuichi's findings in her notepad, the gears in her head turning. "Where were they at that time?"

"Ah, a midnight drive. To a park." He informed, Kyoko nodded, writing something down and then closing her notepad. "I'm going to investigate the backyard, talk to some more people, see how much you can find out."

Shuichi nodded, and with that Kyoko turned on her heel and made her way to the backyard through the trash.

Shuichi stood where he was, his brows furrowing as he thought. He turned to look at the mother and daughter, his gaze fixating on the daughter. She seemed to be the only one who was calm, well, as calm as you can be in a situation like this.

Shuichi walked over to the porch, approaching the two and clearing his throat. "Ahem, Miss Koizumi?" They both looked up at me, which made him nervous.

He nodded towards the daughter, he stepped back as she told her mother she would be back in a moment.

"Do you need me to tell you what I know?" She asked, he nodded in response, pulling out his notepad. "Ah..can I get your name..?" He nervously asked.

"Oh, I am Mahiru Koizumi." She introduced herself and he took note of it, "Thank you, now can you tell me how your father was? If he had any enemies or people who were on bad terms with him?"

Mahiru's face turned sour and she crossed her arms begrudgingly, "Of course he did, mostly from people at his work. He was a deadbeat father who didn't put any effort into raising his daughter."

Shuichi tried to keep a poker face, like how Kyoko does but, he couldn't help frowning after hearing this.

His parents were absent most of his life, so he didn't have much experience, but his uncle was kind and patient with him. It seems Koizumi's father didn't do much, and with what little he did always left a negative impact behind.

"But...he's still my father.." Her sour expression turned sad, and she held herself as if she were trying to cradle herself.

Shuichi nodded, "Of course, even if you hate a parent with all your heart, there's still a small piece of it that cares for them."

Her sad expression turned determined, "You better find who did this, alright? And make sure they never do it again."

Her sudden changes in mood surprised him, but he gave her a smile and nodded, "I'll do my best to bring the truth to light."

Mahiru nodded her head, "I'll be counting on you..." she trailed off, "Oh, Saihara. Shuichi Saihara."

Shuichi got all the information he could from Mahiru, trying to be as professional as possible.

"Wait! Before you go, I may have something that could help with your investigation." She spoke up, pulling her camera out and going through her photos.

Saihara looked down at her camera, seeing she stopped on, what seemed to be a group photo. "Here, I don't know how much this'll help but, if it'll give you a lead." She showed me the picture.

"It's a group photo of all my dads 'friends' at work, if one of them did it..." she didn't finish the sentence, this was still hard for her to accept and it was harder to accept that people she's grown up with could possibly be her father's murderer.

Shuichi nodded in gratitude, "That would really help. Thank you, Mahiru." Mahiru nodded, "I could print out a copy of this photo, along with notes of names and addresses for where each person lives. And if it's not too much...I would like to come with you. To interrogate these people."

The question took Shuichi by surprise, "You want to, tag along in the case?" He asked, a tilt of the head to convey his confusion.

Mahiru nodded, "I need to be there myself, to hear them say it." She was getting teary eyed, Shuichi sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

"I would have to bring it up with my partner, come by my office down at the police station when dropping off a printed version of that photo. I should have an answer by then." He explained, earning him a nod from the red-headed photographer.

"I'll see you then."
