Levi X dead!reader

Reader POV

This is the 47th expedition beyond the walls. I am actually a captain of a squad, considered a veteran. On top of that, I am very skilled, many compared me to Levi, but I prefer to ignore them. I have more important things to do anyway. I was in charge of the left-wing, which had a few new recruits and my job was to keep them safe and help them survive their first expedition.

Levi has always kind of been my crush. He always swings his swords at titans with that badass look. Levi is smart and loves reading. But, I know he does not like me back. I am just not his type, being the kind and helpful person, the cheery and always smiling kind of girl. Beyond his superficial features, there is something only if people look carefully, then they will see. Those sad eyes. what had they gone through? Why is he trying to avoid sleeping? Was it because of his dead comrades? I never mustered the courage to ask.

I rode my horse and fired a smoke signal, leading the new recruits around an abandoned village. It was a windy day, so my hair was constantly fluttering. We travelled to base for a break. There, I explained about the exercise we were going to carry out here. At the back of my head though, I was thinking about Levi and his position in the centre-rank.

Just then, At the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a horde of titans running towards the base. Abnormals. The first time I ever saw them as a group. " SWITCH TO ODM GEAR! I WILL SETTLE THE TITANS!!!" I fired a black smoke shell and rode my horse towards the titans. There were 8 titans, all 7 meters tall. They are abnormals, so they will be moving faster.

I ran up one of the titan's arms. It tried to grab me, but I cut off all its fingers before slicing the nape. I took down another two with ease. Thank god the base had tall trees! The two titans were in a straight line, so a clean-cut did the job. 4 titans left! I lured one to the trees. Using my ODM gear, I cut off the ankles and killed it.  I instructed a new recruit to act as bait and distract the other titan while I followed it and cut the nape. However, just as I was about to head back up the tree, the last abnormal pulled my cords and smashed me against a tree. Just my luck, I hit head first. That force sent me unconscious. I can literally feel the blood gushing out. The recruits are still safe, right?

I heard the sound of ODM gear. Levi! In less than a second, the last titan was dead. He immediately ran to me. "Hey, brat! Stay with me! Shit, her head is still bleeding!" I felt my vision blur as it all faded to black...

Levi POV

The situation could not get any worse. (Name) was injured. No. She is dead. I can't believe it. 

To be honest, since I joined the survey corps, I have always had my eyes on her. (Name) was perfect. I wish she would be especially nice to me than the others. I guarded her lifeless body, holding it close to mine. I see 3 more titans heading towards us. Fuck. I grabbed her and took off with my ODM gear. Never have I cared so much about a dead body before. What am I doing? She is not coming back. I try to keep my composure, holding back a tear. As I am standing on the highest branch, I reminisce about the times we had together. She always had tea with me, diligently cleaned, knew when I needed help with something since (Name) is always so damn tall...

I killed the 3 titans while still holding to her body. Just then, Erwin came. " At least no recruits were dead." "Tch. In exchange for the lives of those 50 recruits, we lost a veteran." Before I lay her body on the ground, I gave her a small kiss on the lips, saying softly "Sorry I couldn't confess earlier, I hope you accept this compensation. Rest now." (Name)'s resolve to kill the titans shall stay with me forever. As we were on our way back to Wall Maria, I sat on the cart with bodies, looking at (Name).

At night

Petra sat down with Levi. She was mourning too, (Name) was also her mentor and best friend. "Heichou, I know you are sad for (Name)'s death. But what you don't know is, before she died, she handed me a letter, it was meant for you in case she actually died. I hope you read it, there might be something important." Petra pulled out a white letter from her scout jacket and handed it to her captain. Levi nodded and headed back to his room and read it.

"Dear Levi,

If you are reading this, I am probably dead. This letter is a confession letter, actually. I really love you, but I am too shy to say this out loud. Sometimes I wish you would tell me you feel the same. That you get butterflies in your stomach every time you see me. I noticed how you are always by my side, and you even care to use my name instead of insults. Hell, you called Erwin Eyebrows at a meeting with the premier! You are always so mysterious, your expression never reveals your feelings, but whether you like me or not is up to you. Don't be affected by my death, everyone will die someday and I am no different. There is something in your eyes I think is pain Believe in yourself, that you can one day eliminate the titans.

Since then, there has always been a bouquet of flowers for (Name)'s grave. No one really knows who changes the flowers. But they are always fresh. Not even previous commanders had flowers on their graves replaced every day. White roses which meant eternal love. N
