"What's wrong with it?!" Kagome demanded, slamming her hands on the tatami mat between herself and Naraku. They were sitting in the great hall, eating a meal together. Naraku had insisted that it was easier on Naomi because of all the work that had started in the castle. Nearby, Shippo hesitated eating to watch the drama unfold.

"What isn't wrong with it?" Naraku seethed, their noses inches apart, "If I let you out of the barrier, and I could trust you to return, Inuyasha will catch your scent in no time, and I have no wish to see you interacting with him!" Kagome leaned forward a little, invading Naraku's space.

"Then I can use that foxfire disguise that kept him from tracing my scent the last time!" she said.

"So you did see him!" Naraku leaned forward, making Kagome recoil, her heart racing, a little in fear, a little in anger.

"Yeah, I did!" she said. He stood up, putting his hands in his sleeves.

"You aren't going into town." he said. She stood up too.

"I said I saw him, I didn't talk to him!" she snapped. Naraku looked surprised.

"And why wouldn't you want to talk to your precious Inuyasha?" he sneered. She slammed her hands on her hips.

"Because he left me for another woman?!" she pointed out incredulously, "The only reason he's coming here, other than to try and kill you, is because he wants me to bear him a child! Talk about a Miroku standpoint!" Shippo looked shocked, and Naraku stiffened at the news. "If I saw him right this instant, I'd use his beads of subjugation so much that you'd be able to see the other side of the world from here!"

"He wants you for what?!" Naraku breathed, the fury in his tone making Kagome's anger deflate.

"Well, that's what I heard him say while I was spying on him and Kikyo." she said sheepishly, looking away from Naraku, "I mean, Kikyo can't bear a child, right?"

"Good evening Naraku-sama." Kyoka waltzed in with a smile on her face, "Did Kagome-hime talk to you about the koi?" Kagome sighed, deflated.

"Kagome and Naraku are arguing about Inuyasha." Shippo said, "And now Naraku's mad because Inuyasha wants Kagome to carry his child."

"Oh." Kyoka said, "And he's worried that Kagome-hime will get kidnapped?"

"Pretty much." Shippo said, and then sighed, "Jeez, if he's so worried about it, why not just go with her?" Kagome was startled. She hadn't thought of that idea. Naraku looked similarly thoughtful.

"Do these...koi... really mean that much?" Naraku asked her.

"Well, we also need supplies." Kagome said, "And koi fish are supposed to bring luck."

"Hmm." Naraku turned away from her and walked a few paces towards the side doors that were open to let the evening air in, cooling the hot room. She stared after him, confused, and wondering what he was thinking.

"Fine." he at last said, "Tomorrow, I will accompany you, Shippo, and Kyoka to the human village not far from here. But you will both obey me without question." his eyes narrowed at Kagome, "If I say we leave, we leave. Got it?" she crossed her arms.

"Nothing's going to happen, so I get it!" she said.

"You will also not be entering town looking like that." he turned and gestured her school uniform, "That short kimono is too easily recognizable."

"I'll prepare a fitting outfit!" Kyoka said happily. Naraku returned to his meal, sitting down before looking up at her in an almost playful manner.

"Is that satisfactory, Kagome?" the way he said her name made her shiver a little, a memory of being in his arms popping into her head. She sat back down, picking up her chopsticks and her bowl, saying nothing as she continued eating.
