Chapter 10: Wanted to See You Smile

 Naraku skidded back on the street, glaring at Inuyasha. Oh, how he loathed the pathetic half-demon. But he was still recovering from the moth demon's poison, though he'd never admit it aloud. Moreover, maintaining the barrier that hid his castle was taxing at best. He'd never thought that as a demon his power would be so little. Or was he simply untrained in using it? Kagome was right. They had to leave. He turned to find Kagome, intent on flying away with her, and realized she was gone, her trail headed into the forest.

"Looking kind of bothered there, Naraku." Inuyasha sneered, bringing Naraku's gaze back to him, "I'm taking Kagome back, and finishing you off!"

"Bold words." Naraku kept his tone cool and smug, while internally his demon suddenly seemed to focus, intent on taking Inuyasha's life. No one was allowed to take Kagome away from him. She belonged to him, and him alone. He narrowed his eyes as his demon's anger became his own. It didn't matter that Kagome was supposed to be a pawn. He wanted her at his side, and that was the end of it. "I'd like to see you try."

"Hey, mutt..." Koga skidded to a halt near Inuyasha, his expression wary and angry, "You feel that, right?"

"Yeah." Inuyasha said, "His demonic power suddenly skyrocketed." Naraku allowed himself to assume the form the pair were most likely familiar with, the one possessing multiple limbs that allowed him to keep his distance. Internally, he calculated how to get Kagome back. Was she running? Running from him as fast as she could? No. She would not abandon the fox child. Koga and Inuyasha were convinced he'd somehow taken control of Kagome's mind. Without the Shikon Jewel, such a tactic was closer to something Kikyo could do than what he was capable of.

He attacked them both, keeping them busy while he tried to find Kagome's spiritual energy. Unfortunately, thanks to his actions, he couldn't detect it at all. He gritted his teeth, ignoring the pain from when Inuyasha and Koga severed his limbs. He couldn't keep this act up for much longer, but he was loath to become his full demon self. Having never done so, he wasn't familiar with the kinds of advantages it gave. It was best to find the best means to escape, and drop the useless meat that Inuyasha and Koga were hacking apart. But he wouldn't leave without Kagome. Which meant he had to find her.

Depositing the flesh, he raced into the forest, following Kagome's scent. Wolves had taken her through the forest. Behind him, he heard Koga and Inuyasha following him. He immediately rerouted. If Inuyasha and Koga thought he was chasing Kagome, Koga could tell his wolves to run faster, and lead him into a trap. Instead, he had to set up a trap of his own. He cleared the trees, and realized that any attacks Inuyasha's blade made once Kagome's arrow wore off would hurt this village. He skidded to a halt, turning to face Inuyasha and Koga as they came through the trees after him. They attacked. He dodged them both, dancing around their claws and kicks, making no move to attack them while he tried to decide what to do. This village was his to do with as he pleased, but he'd prefer not to destroy it.

"Master." Toki's voice echoed in Naraku's ears, "Kyoka told me you needed my assistance!"

"Stay out of this." Naraku snarled, "I won't have you hurt! Ensure Kyoka, Shippo, and the wagon returns to the castle safely!"

"Yes, my Lord!"  Toki replied, and then his presence was gone. Naraku continued dodging. Thanks to being a full demon, his speed was much faster than Inuyasha's, but Koga still posed a threat as he nimbly moved, keeping pace. Not to mention, even though Tetsusaiga was sheathed, it could return to normal at any moment.

"Get out of the way, mutt!" Koga snapped at Inuyasha as he moved around.

"Inuyasha!" Kikyo's voice made Naraku stiffen, "Kagome has disappeared!" Naraku grabbed Inuyasha by the throat suddenly, jumping clear of Koga, his long black claws curled to rip Inuyasha to pieces.
