Today Derek was going home. Or he will no longer sleep here, but he is going to continue to be at the hospital, as my boss, and whatever. I don't even know how this happened. A month and a half ago he was just some patient and now we are- and he is going to be my boss. Which will be all sorts of complicated, but I am going to make it extremely clear to everyone that we were dating before he started here and I am not some girl who is trying to sleep with my boss to get ahead. I definitely don't need to sleep with anyone to get ahead and I haven't even slept with him yet. But that is definitely something I am looking forward to.
"Are you sure you have everything?" I asked as I paced the room looking for any misplaced objects.
"Yes I am sure." Derek rolled his eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me." I laughed and swatted at his arm.
"Yes dear." He said as he kissed my forehead.
"I'm driving us to your trailer." I announced.
"What? Why?" He asked.
"Well one your car is still at the dealership. And two, last time you drove you ended up in the hospital for six weeks and almost lost your surgical career. So I'll drive." I shrugged.
"You're bossy." He laughed.
"Maybe I should take the head of neuro position and you can be my intern." I winked.
"Oh that would be hot." He smirked.
"Hotter than the other way around?" I asked.
"I think with us, any way would be hot." He said as he kissed me lightly.
"Probably." I laughed. "So you have everything with the trailer ready?"
"Yes." He smiled.
"And then after we get you settled into the trailer, we are going to go shopping for kitchen supplied, bathroom supplies, bedding, more clothes because the clothes they salvaged from the car are definitely not enough, then we have to get groceries so you don't starve. Is there anything else we need to get?" I asked.
"No I think that's all." He smiled.
"Okay, we just need your discharge papers and we can get out of here. And at some point we have to go the DMV to get you a Washington drivers license." I said.
"We?" He asked with a grin.
"Oh I mean- you can go alone- if you really want- I just thought-" I trailed off.
"You just assumed that you would go to the DMV, the most boring place on earth, the place that people actively despise, with me?" He asked as he placed his hands on my hips.
"I don't have to go if you really don't want me-" I was cut off by him pulling me towards him and kissing me.
"I love you." He said against my lips.
"Oh." I said looking at him with wide eyes.
"I know it's soon and all but god- I've never had anyone actively want to go to the DMV with me. And that might sound like a stupid reason to love someone but god- you just- are extraordinary. And bossy, and hilarious, and gorgeous, and I just- love you. Am in love with you." He said as he kissed me again.
"I love you too." I said as I wrapped my arms around his waist.
"Good." He said as he moved my hair out of my face.
"And just double checking, you have all the paperwork ready so you can start work on Tuesday?" I asked.
"Meredith Grey." He grinned as he shook his head.
"I know it's stupid and you are an adult and all but I love you and you didn't think you would be able to be a surgeon anymore I just want to make sure everything is good." I said as I chewed my lip.
"Thank you. And I got all the paperwork ready." He said as he kissed me again.
"Derek- we, I don't- I've never done this before, the whole loving each other thing. So, um, what exactly are we doing" I stammered.
"We, my dear, are loving each other." He kissed her forehead.
"And we are doing that as-" I asked.
"In a relationship. Doing the whole boyfriend, girlfriend loving each other thing." He smirked.
"Okay." I said as I kissed him again.
"Okay." He responded.
