The corridors were emptier than expected but a few patrolling professors were seen and Beatriz had realised how late it was. No questions were asked as they saw her heading towards Gryffindor Common Room with lazy steps. Beatriz had also found herself nearly falling for the trick step which she hadn't touched since she was a child and her mother had to practically lynch her out. "Password," The Fat Lady stated reproachfully as she was awoken suddenly.
"Banana Fritters." Swinging open, Beatriz noticed a large portion of Gryffindor students sat in the Common Room and for the first time, she missed Fred and George. Of course, their absence was noted almost immediately but it felt heavy and painful not to have them in the Common Room anymore.
"Hey, Bea. How are you?" The nickname resurfaced memories that Beatriz had forgotten about, her mother would often lose her and a game of hide-and-seek would ensue. Much to her mother's disgust.
"Great, oh, we have no more house points. Umbridge just took them from us." Without missing a beat, Lee Jordan loudly spoke across the room.
"I didn't realise we had any left to take." Beatriz smiled slightly as she rubbed her hands over her red, swollen face, as her chest jolted with a sudden hiccup.
"We need to do something about Umbridge. She can't stay any longer, Dumbledore's gone, Hagrid's gone and McGonagall is gone. Flitwick is barely holding in, it is no secret that she wants Flitwick gone, if she can't remove Trelawney or Firenze first." Beatriz didn't stick around to listen as she headed towards her bed.
"Well, I told her that if mum doesn't make it I will kill her so if times get desperate I am up for using an unforgivable curse." Gasps filled the room of younger students as older ones didn't dare to interrupt the events playing out. "Oh, and if any of you are wondering, Umbridge will be out of her office tomorrow all morning on some Ministry work. Probably just shoving her head further up Fudge's arse. Be careful though, she has Filch and Mrs Norris on strict patrol around the room, Peeves will probably distract him enough to load her office with stink bombs." A few quiet agreements were made and a small cheer as they watched her wander up the stairs to her room.
Beatriz had managed to remove her school robes when she realised that she had lost her hat. Instead, clutched firmly in her hands was her mother's hat. The reminder of her mother was carefully placed on the bedside table. By the time Beatriz had knelt onto her bed, preparing herself for sleep, the door flew open behind her and heavy steps filled the room. "Hey, a house-elf dropped in and said this was yours," Imy mumbled as she carefully placed the hat down, beside Professor McGonagall's.
"Cheers," hummed Beatriz as she finally crawled into her bed as Hermione returned from the bathroom.
"Beatriz, are you okay?" Turning to look at Imy, a head nod was all she could muster in return as her eyes stung and her jaw quivered.
"Fine." Beatriz's voice was heavy and airy as she barely managed to hold herself back.
Silence had filled the room as curtains were pulled, only three students were in the room as the others caught up on work and revision. Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil were busy reading their horoscopes while Lily and Sophie tried to finish Snape's homework that they had managed to forget. "Bea, I am sorry for what happened but it was a little stupid, threatening to kill her. I don't doubt that she is going to try to kick you out as well now. If you didn't cause trouble, as Professor McGonagall had said, she couldn't make you leave and you would still have Hogwarts." Clearing her throat, Beatriz managed to mumble a reply.
"Hermione, why don't I go and kill your parents and see if you are happy about it? But, even if your parents die, you still have Molly and Hogwarts, you have Ron and Harry. By your logic, you shouldn't even mourn their deaths." Holding down tears again, Beatriz sighed loudly as she turned over in her bed, staring up at the curtains.
