Okay, this first part is done in first person and then in third the rest of the story. The first person start is done in Sam's point of view, just to let you know. This story is dedicated to people who look at life as a blessed gift and to those who want their true selves to be known but are afraid.

I hate my life. Ever since my father's death I have hated it. My name is Samantha Ann Jones, and this is my life. At 13, I lost my father. I loved him and looked up to him, just like how I looked up to Josh. That was before then, though.

Josh was like my babysitter. He was 17, I was 13 and he would watch over me as my mom and dad worked. We were friends. But then rouges attacked. Josh and I were defenceless; he had torn his leg up in training and I hadn't learned any defensive moves. Just when a rouge lunged for Josh's throat, my father came out of no where and was killed in that same move, protecting Josh and me.

If Josh had shifted, he could have held the rouge back, counter-attack, since it was close range. But he didn't. He let my father take the blow, and he let my father die. Josh shifted after that to attack the rouge in 'fury', but it was his alpha genes kicking in. His beta was killed, he needed to be avenged.

And so my life was changed. We held an honorary funeral for my father, and a ceremony as my mother and I were removed from the status ranking my father had earned. Instead, we got the lowest rank, insult to add to our injury.  Mother always said it was to protect us, but never from what.

There I was, 16 exactly and waiting to find who my mate is. Our pack healer, Gretchen, had been consulting the spirits day and night in her locked room. It was five days since my mother requested me a mate, and it'd never been this long in the history of the Blade Pack for a mate to be found. All of the other females skirted away from me like I was cursed..... and I hated it.

Then came the day the healer announced my mate. A shocked gasp ran through the crowd as Gretchen made him come forward on the stairs to join us. Everyone backed away from me like I had a disease, or I was growing horns. Even my own mother moved away slightly as my mate came up.

It was Josh, the alpha-to-be.
