Chapter 27🦋

"I felt butterflies when I was with Y/N 🦋."

Y/N's POV:
It was another boring day at university and to make it even more boring my closest friend and kinda girlfriend was super duper far away. Me and Annie kind of bonded and I'm happy she turned to me for advice. I'd like to hang out with her, but I'm terrified she'd think I was weird and judge me. I laid in my bed pondering how Yelena was gone and I had almost nobody to talk to. I reached for my phone and saw two notifications. Two notifications really? My phone was so dry. I opened them and it was two text messages from Annie. What ANNIE LEONHART texted me? Oh my gosh we're becoming friends!

Annie: Hey
Annie: Wanna hang out at the café before class?
Me: Yeah ofc! What time?
Annie: Before class
Me: No like a specific time?!?!

I waited about five minutes for her reply only to realise I've been blue ticked all along. That's kinda embarrassing. Anyways enough overthinking for today. I've got to get ready for class. I set up my outfit on my bed which was super killer.

My DIY pleather jacket and cross necklace looked so cool with this outfit (Yes pleather, because we don't support animal cruelty). I grabbed my towel and headed to my bathroom. It was really early in the morning so I had time to wash my hair (apologies to my bald folk) and do some makeup. I spent quite a while in the shower then grabbed a dark chocolate jungle oats bar to eat on my way to campus. My outfit looked great along with my makeup. I grabbed my art portfolio and camera and finally was on my way.

I arrived at the cafe to see Annie in her punk attire scrolling through stuff on her phone. "Hey." I greeted as I sat down at the table. "Hi." She said monotonously and put away her phone. "So how is everything with Pieck?" I asked in a slightly hushed voice. "Well she was sick this morning, but otherwise fine." She said bluntly. "No, I mean with y'know." I said hoping she'd remember. "Oh yes that. Well I don't think I'd figure it out overnight." She said and fiddled with a sugar sachet in front of her. "You'll figure it out soon." I said awkwardly. "What are you going to order?" She asked and changed the subject. "I'm thinking about (insert favorite food and drink)." I said whilst looking at the menu. "I think I'll have the strawberry shortcake and black coffee." She said with a small smile. "So Annie is your family from here?" I asked. Her slightly happy expression faded into a frown and she looked away from me. "Yes they are and you?" She asked reverting back to her old self. "No my family is from Paradis." I said with a smile to hopefully cheer her up. "Mm wonderful." She said. It almost sounded sarcastic. I didn't want to push any further and bother her about her family life. "So what are your hobbies?" I asked. "I enjoy playing the electric guitar and hanging out in the library with Armin." She said. "Oh I like (insert hobbies)." I said. I didn't realise I was smiling until I saw Annie smiling at my expression. "I love it when people talk passionately about their hobbies." Annie said with a real smile. "Me too. Are you ready to order?" I asked her. "Yeah I was ready when I stated my order." She said bluntly. Her tone was harsh, but I never knew if she intended for it to be that way. "Can I take your order?" A glum university student asked. "Yes." Annie replied just as glum. They looked at us indicating to order. "I'll have (insert favourite food and drink)." I said. They nodded and took the order down. "I'll have the strawberry shortcake and black coffee." Annie ordered. The student worker glumly walked back. "They look drained." I commented. "Well yeah it's university." Annie said. Just before an awkward silence could commence Annie's phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and it said 'Father'. Damn who has their dad saved as father? 'Rude as ever Y/N.' My inner voice complained. Yes mother inner voice. I looked back at Annie who declined the call. Her father kept on calling and calling. "I think you should answer that." I suggested. "I don't want to." She said with a threatening glare. "Then power of your phone." I said in a bit of annoyance which she seemed to notice. "I hope I'm not annoying you Y/N." She said after powering off her phone. "No of course you're not." I said. That was 80% true. She was a bit bitchy, but she was overall nice. "I know I come off as bitchy." She started. Wait what the heck is she reading my mind I better block my thoughts. "You're calm not bitchy." I defended. "There's a lot more from where the bitchyness came from." She said. "Where?" I blurted out. I just realized what I said and immediately covered my face in my hands. Annie was actually laughing. "Nobody has ever admitted it." She said with a grin on her face. "Did you want someone to admit it?" I questioned confusedly with my face still in my hands. "Well yes." She said. "Why?" I asked. "Because then I know my friend is comfortable to be honest." She said. "I never thought of that one." I said and finally looked at her. "Nobody does." She said as the student worker put our food and drinks down. "Thanks." I said and shot them a smile and surprisingly they smiled back. I don't know why I always get so happy when someone smiles at me. Is that weird? Am I making it weird? "So where'd the bitchyness come from?" I asked with confidence this time. "Confidence I like it. And my dad of course." She said and rolled her eyes as if it was obvious. "Dad problems I see. People who have good relationships with their parents are lucky." I said. "I don't know my birth parents." Annie said as she took a bite of her cake. "Oh sorry." I said sympathetically. "Well if they abandoned me they're no good anyways." She said slightly upset. "Fuck them parents." I whispered. "I'm oversharing sorry." She apologized. "No it's fine I do it too." I said trying to reassure her. "Thanks." She said and avoided much more talk. We quickly ate our meals and I was really stuffed. "I'll pay for the bill." Annie said and got up. "No I'll pay." I said whilst wanting to do something nice for someone at least once. "No it's fine." She monotonously. "We can split it." I said. That always worked with Yelena. "Uh no I can pay." She said and walked to the till. "Annie it's fine." I reassured her and got out my wallet. "Oh so you think I'm poor, because I have a single father." She said with pure anger. "What no." I defended. I didn't think that at all. "Jokes." She said and smiled. That whole fiasco distracted me and Annie ended up paying. "Well thanks for the meal Annie." I said gratefully. "We still have time before class." She said. "Want to take a walk at the university's park?" I offered. "I'd love to." She said and followed me to the park. "It's really nice to have a new friend." She said monotonously. Even though her voice didn't show it I could tell she was happy. "Aww thanks Annie." I said happily. "I was talking about the cashier at the café." She joked. "I see, I see." I said hoping she would get my Hanji impression. "Sorry Lecturer Hanji Zoe." She said and bowed. "High five!" I exclaimed and held up my hand. Annie did not high five me back. 'Not very swag of you.' My inner voice said to Annie. She can't hear you. 'I CAN HEAR HER.' My inner voice said. True, true. Whilst we were walking in park I heard sniffling sounds. "Annie do you hear that too?" I asked. "Someone's crying." She said in a hushed voice. "We should check if they're okay." I urged. Annie just huffed, but nodded her head. The closer I got to the sniffling the person's hiding spot was harder to find. "Hello." I awkwardly called out. The sniffling immediately stopped. Well of course they didn't want to be found. Annie shook my shoulder and pointed in the direction of a bush. "Who ever is crying is in there?" Annie whispered to me. "Lets find out." I whispered wearily. I carefully crept up to the bushes and hoped my boots wouldn't crunch any leaves right now. Thankfully they didn't. I slowly peered over the bush to see a girl holding her knees and a red scarf hid her face. "Are you okay?" I gently asked. She looked up at me which revealed her red puffy eyes and her short black hair which framed her face. It was that girl that's always with Eren. "Mikasa?" Annie questioned stoically from behind me. She averted her gaze from me to now look at Annie. "Go away!" She demanded. "Mikasa I know we aren't the best of friends, but tell me what's wrong." Annie said and knelt down in front of her. Those words made Mikasa burst out crying again. Annie was comforting her and it seemed like I was forgotten. "When you're ready you can tell me." Annie said comfortingly. Woah Annie is good at this. "It's E-E-Eren." She said whilst sniffling. "What did he do?" Annie asked curiously. 'Why is she so out of character?' My inner voice questioned. That I did not know. "He told me he hates me and he's always hated me ever since we were kids." She sobbed. "Eren is shit." Annie muttered loud enough for the both of us to hear. "But he didn't mean it." She defended. "Tell me he didn't mean it." She started pleading. "Look Mikasa, maybe Eren was angry and didn't mean to hurt you." I said carefully. "He hurt Armin too." She choked out. "What." Annie said angrily. "He hurt-." Mikasa was cut off by Annie saying. "Oh I heard that." "Annie he's fine." Mikasa defended. Woah one minute hating on this dude and the next she's defending him. "What did Eren do to him?" Annie asked threateningly. 'Does Annie love Armin romantically or platonically?' My inner voice questioned. A bit of both I think. "They fought, because of what Eren said to me." Mikasa said. "Why don't we do something fun." I suggested before the two could start fighting. "Like what?" Annie said slightly annoyed. "Go shopping!" I said enthusiastically. "That actually sounds nice." Mikasa said and shot me a smile. Annie was still annoyed with what Mikasa had said to her. Which meant I had to stand in the middle of them as we walked to the bus stop. "So Y/N what are you studying?" Mikasa asked as she wiped her eyes. "I'm studying art and you?" I asked. "I'm studying humanities." She said in a bored tone. "That's nice. "So how do you and Annie know each other?" I asked. "We're friends." Annie said harshly. Mikasa just fiddled with her rosary as we walked. "Your rosary is really pretty." I complimented. "Oh thank you it was a birthday gift." She said with slight happiness in her voice. I was trying to ease the tension between Annie and Mikasa, but I wasn't too successful. "What music do you like?" I asked Mikasa. Annie just gave me a weary look. "I'm into darkwave, postpunk, new wave and deathrock." She said. "Ooh that's great I'm into (insert favourite music genre)." I said. "Why are we going to the mall with HER?" Annie whispered in my ear. I shot Annie a glare. Could she stop being childish. Mikasa was obviously upset and there was no harm in helping her feel better. "Y/N and Annie, I really appreciate what you're doing for me. It means a lot." Mikasa said. "No problem anytime." I said, happy to be of help. Annie just rolled her eyes. I get it she was upset for Mikasa defending a guy who beat up her boyfriend it's understandable.

After riding the bus in an awkward silence we finally arrived at the mall. "Should I get posters?" Annie asked. "I'm sure they'd suit your dorm room." I said to her and she just nodded her head. "So where do you want to go first?" Mikasa asked. "The book store." Me and Annie said in sync. Annie gave me a small smile and Mikasa chuckled. "Perfect I think the book store sells Tarot cards." She said happily. We walked in comfortable silence to the book store. The mall was unusually quiet, but after all it was quite early. I saw teenagers with dyed hair and piercings shopping at Hot Topic and your average white girls picking out white crop tops at H&M. Woah nothing new! The bookstore was near the foodcourt and the toilets. Who puts a bookstore near the toilets? As we entered Mikasa ran straight for the witchcraft section and Annie went straight for the posters leaving me behind to me own shopping. I scrolled through some books Call Me By Your Name seemed interesting until I found out the main character was seventeen and his love interest was twenty-four. The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo was a good book that I read in high-school. I moved away from the novels and looked at the graphic novels. And oh my god I couldn't believe my eyes! They had BANANA FISH! It was probably one of the coolest mangas out there and I just had to buy it. Sorry parents I need this. I ran by to the posters section to find Annie and Mikasa speaking to each other in a friendly manner. This day was getting better and better. "I love the craft it's my favourite movie. We should watch it together sometime." I heard Mikasa tell Annie. "I'd like that." Annie said and tried to conceal her smile. "Oh Y/N you should watch the craft with me and Annie too!" Mikasa exclaimed. She was happier than she was this morning which kinda made my day. "I'm gonna go pay for my stuff." I said and headed to the cashier. "Cash or card?" The old lady asked. "Card." I said. I handed her the mangas and fumbled around for my wallet. As I opened my wallet a polaroid of me and Yelena fell out. It was the one Annie took of us sleeping on Armin's bed.

A/N: Heyo guys sorry for the late update I'm still trying to figure out the schedule since it got messed up. I have exams so I may go on hiatus AGAIN sadly.
