You entered the room, removing your surgical mask and cap; your bloody scrubs and gloves discarded into the hazmat bin. You sat on the bed and buried your head in your hands, sobbing soon after.

After a few minutes, you could hear the door open and footsteps approach your miserable form. Feeling arms around you, you leaned into your fiance and sobbed harder. He simply rubbed your arm soothingly and whispered assuring things into your ear.
Moments later, your sobs quieted down enough to speak. “How do you do this every day, Law?” you asked.
“Do what?” he asked.
“How do you come here every day, knowing that any surgery you do could kill someone? Or they could die despite you doing everything you could.”
“You want the truth?”
You sat up enough to glare at the dark haired man. “No, I want you to lie to me,” you managed to snark.
Law simply smiled at your ability to still be sarcastic when you looked so devastated. “Because of you,” he replied.
“Oh god, don't tell me I'm psychologically forcing you to stay at a career you hate!”
“No! No, no, no! ____-ya, I promise you it's not like that. What I meant was because I have you to look forward to every day I come home, I can get through even the toughest days here. ____-ya, I asked you to marry me because you bring light into the darkness of my world. I couldn't do this without you.  The fact that you came here today and helped me despite being on vacation where you normally work means a lot to me.”
You laughed lightly. “Well, working on animals isn't as hard as people, but you needed me. I know I can rely on you, Law.”
“I love you, ____-ya.”
“Love you too, Law.”
