A New Daughter?

I am asked to drive over to GEH after my appointment at the doctors. Grace told me that Carrick and Christian are being quiet about why and who they were meeting with this morning and now they want me to join them. Christian spoke like it was an urgent matter that couldn't wait. I arrive and go upstairs and get a sympathetic look from a few people as I head to the elevator. I go into Christian's office and stop dead in my tracks looking at a baby girl with gray eyes and copper hair drooling on a mans shoulder and cooing away at me.

She isn't your husbands child, here is a photo of her real father wit her mother, my sister Leila. He gave up all parental rights to Grace Ella. But since Leila is dead she had a will and left her daughter to your husband.

Danny
Very serious, her will is very clear on it. I can't take her and our parents can't either. I am still trying to sell her artwork and close up her studio. But you can look over the will if you like. Plus here is the document giving up his paternal rights. I show her and she reads it and Carrick Grey shows her the part of the will about the baby. I tell them I need to make arrangements for Leila and I need to know soon about whether I am going to have to find someone else for Grace Ella.

Who would you offer her to?

I believe Leila had a back up plan, but not one I would want around Grace. So I am hoping you both will take her to raise her. She isn't a bad baby, I have been watching her since she was brought home from the hospital. I wished my job was better, but I have to get back to it and it isn't conducive to raising a baby or a child. Plus Leila pretty much tied my parents and my hands and not allowing us to adopt her.

Who would you give her to?

Foster care.

We can't do that Christian, we need to adopt her. I can cope with her being Leila's. It might also be helpful for Theodore as well.
Danny
Is that the son that she kidnapped?
Christian
Yes, well we will write up the adoption papers.
Danny
You don't have to, I have them already made up. Her attorney drew them up for her just in case. I hand them over to Carrick Grey and he says it looks pretty cut and dry. They both sign and have his assistant notarize the documents and photocopy everything. I tell them I have all her things in my rental car, but some things at the hotel room. I have enough for two weeks for her food, clothing she goes through it quickly. Her snowsuits need cleaning now. I have need to get her a new one as a spare, right now we are using sweaters and extra blankets. So we need to grab her things from my room and the car seat. I can bring them by or someone can follow me to get the rest of her things that would be great. She is all yours now. I will miss her, but she is better off with a family.

You won't want her back at any point.

I can guarantee that. Now how are we going to do this?

Security will come get what you have and follow you to get the rest from you.
Danny
Oh here is her trust fund information and the insurance check from Leila's life insurance I got it and it's in Grace Ellas name. I have to get Leila's ashes back to New York and will be here until tomorrow, I have to go back and sell everything of hers. I was going to give you the painting she did of herself, Christian and Grace Ella in a family style painting, but I think it is very inappropriate and think it should be destroyed at this point.

Okay I definitely will destroy it. I hope you love her as your own I know she deserves it. Even though her mother was a crappy person even to her own baby, she is still my sister in the end.
Carrick
We need to get going and security will follow you to get everything else of Grace Ellas. Do you have her medical records.
Danny
I nearly forgot those, I grab my case and take out the files and hand them all to the Grey's. The file is thicker than a normal two month old baby's chart would be and for good reason. I am not going to talk about this until I arrive in New York. I am too embarrassed to tell them that I have had Grace Ella since she came back out of the hospital after a week of being with Leila. I found Grace in bad shape and took her to the hospital. I called CPS on my own sister. A week later I was given temporary custody of my niece. That's after Leila disappeared. I tried to explain that to the Grey's and they just nodded and took Grace and placed her in her car seat and thanked me and left leaving me with the security guys waiting to follow me.
An hour later I feel the loss of Grace Ella and all her things. I pull the painting out and decide to keep it for my bedroom at home. I pick up Leila's ashes and finally get a good nights sleep.

I think we shouldn't tell anyone she is Leila's child. The more I think about it the more I think it would foster resentment towards her later on from others in the family.

I think you are right. Mum is the word from now on.
