I saw the look on Chimaera's face, the pain the anger over and over again like it was replaying all in his head again and again. He buried his head in his hands, crying,
"They... they just came... and they capture us. An- and they- they killing us... I tried to protect em I tried my best." Tears streamed out his eyes, they were darker than a human's, but that didn't matter "There was... terrible, terrible, terrible blood... there was so... much blood. Louisa... Lou she..." he gripped his hands into his horns pulling on them as if he wanted it all to go away. I just had to sit there and listen "She went in front o' me when they got out those guns and..."
Chimaera couldn't go any further. His voice was a sore whisper,"... I wasn't even able to say goodbye to 'er... to any of em... they took their bodies, they'd took their dead bleeding bodies... then I was just left alone, scampered up a tree. She told me to run. But now they'd netted me from the tree and noticed how small I was..."
I wasn't sure if Chimaera had choked on his tears or growled,"And- and they laughed at me... they were laughing and they were bloody and it was so loud... then they just taken me in a tiny boxy cage and before I knew it..." he looked up, his eyes even more red and sore than they were before. He touched his face,"They 'ad broken me... they said it was a gift they said I was 'enhanced' now. That I could see better. I can see better. But that didn't mean it was a gift.
"So I escaped. I just ran and ran back to the wood. And I 'id. Years and years went by and then..." he chuckled a little painfully,"Then you come here and ya sound and ya speak..." he shook his head staring right into my eyes. Not into the things I could see with, not into my mask. Into my eyes. I knew he was looking at my eyes and he knew I was looking straight back.
"... and ya sound just like 'er. You're just like Louisa... and when I first saw you I wanted to hide back up in that tree forever coz you were different. Never seen nobody like you before and I was terrified. But Louisa didn't do that to me..."
I saw him smile. That goofy, that strong smile he always gave no matter how bad something was. "So I won't do that to you." He gave a half hearted laugh and I'm just realising now that he's just given me his whole life story.
And he knows nothing bout me.
I sigh a bit, I think, and then I look up to Chimaera, I had to talk to him I had to say something. Even if my life story was complete crap at least I spoke, even if I only said a bit at least I said something.
"I've never had anybody in my life." He looked up at me confused. I just continued,"When we're made we skip childhood. It isn't really 'needed' I guess. And that means we don't have parents. We just have all the information we need about a job, our laws and stuff downloaded into our brains. So that means I've never had nobody."Then I don't know, I just started thinkin' bout stuff. I started questioning things. There was this little voice in my head at first and then it got louder. Then... I didn't wanna be alone.
"I didn't wanna hide."
I guess I chuckled a little, the whole reason why I was here was because I ran outta fuel. If I had fuel in my car then I woulda been able to drive to shops and I wouldn't of needed to walk to think of the President, then my mind wouldn't of been so full of that red noise. And then I would of bought my groceries and dropped em off and then to my therapy session at three pm.
Crap, I forgot to go to therapy. I forgot to take out the trash.
...I forgot to text her.
I was running outta fuel for a reason. And I was feeling so empty for a reason. And I bet she's looking at her phone waiting for me to reply to her message if we wanted to meet up again and finish what we were watching.
Or she coulda just forgotten. There's nothing special about me. I'm just another person hiding behind a mask.
