A new beginning

Chapter 20

Mackenzies P.O.V.

I went to Florida where my new job was. I was there for two months. I was so lonely. I was talking to someone when there was a call on my phone. It was Ken. I ran to the back room and answered. He said "Mackenzie?" I said panicking "K-Ken?! What's going on?" I heard a sigh. He said "I wanted to hear your voice. I wanted to so badly." A pain in my chest grew large. I said feeling like I was going to scream "Ken... Please... I have to work..." He said "Kenzie, I want to see-" I said as a flood of tears filled my eyes "You can't! You will never be able to see me! I can't let anyone get hurt!" He said like he was crying "Then at least... At least let me talk to you!" I said as the tears threatened to spill "No! I have to go! Goodbye Ken." I took my phone from my ear. I heard him crying. I held the phone and listened for a minute. My boss walked in. I hung up and turned around hiding my eyes. He said "Mackenzie, May I ask why you are in here yelling at someone over the phone?" I said shocked "Um... Well, you see, I ordered a new pair of shoes the other day and my order never came in." I said trying to find a lie. He said sighing " Is there something wrong Mackenzie?" I said forcing a smile " Nope not at all." He smiled back and said "Okay." He walked out. I looked at my phone and sighed. I wanted to go back so badly. But I knew I couldn't. I would never be able too.

-A year later-

I sat in my office typing when my friend Trish came in with flowers. She put them on my desk slamming a note on my desk with tears pouring down her face. I hugged her and said "What's wrong?" She said angrily " Why would you be here when you have an amazing man like him waiting for you! What is wrong with you?!" I said trying to find words " I don't know..." She said " Read that note RIGHT NOW!" She walked away sobbing. I opened the note shaking.

Kenzie,
I send you these flowers for your birthday. I hope you are well. I miss you. More than you could ever know. You are an angel. I love you. I know I will never see you again... But I just want you to know that I love you. And I always will. Goodbye Mackenzie.
