There was carnage all over the streets- bones with the flesh cleaned off and blood everywhere. So much blood.
Kit noticed a gleam of silver and picked up a wooden case full of serrated knives. He sobbed. It was one he gave to Lovelle.
The young boy picked up the box and carried them back home. His dad eyed them wordlessly and glanced at his crying son before taking the case. Kit found his phone and typed a quick message to Lovelle, praying she’d answer. While waiting Kit busied himself with salting some fish.
There was always enough electricity to charge phones but never enough for a decent security system. Apparently people in the 1st Sector and the 19th had electric fences and motion detectors in their sewers. It was Kit’s dream to become the best butcher America has ever seen. Then he would get to move to the 1st Sector and never have to worry about masked monsters ever again.
He would take his parents and little brothers and sisters. Lovelle was supposed to become a famous actress and move to the 1st also then they would reunite, fall in love and get married. Kit hoped they’d fall in love, but he wasn’t so sure about Lovelle who always stared at Carlo from math class.
Kit’s phone buzzed and he washed his hands off quickly and read the message.
“Have you seen Lovelle?” Kit read. He sobbed. It was from their friend Risa. He typed back a quick ‘no’ then returned to his fish gutting.
The heartbroken boy pretended that the fish was a masked monster as he tore the meat to shreds.
