Third Person POV:
Harlow now stood in front of the eldest fae showing shock and wonder of her face. She had never met someone so 'high and mighty', only the royal family updates and whatnot on the news. But this elderly man was much different. He had an aura around him that made him seem kind and welcoming. Like someone who you could spill all of your troubles to and they would still look at you the same way.
The elder held a smile on his face as he was introduced to Harlow.
"Harlow, this is my grandfather of many generations but my closest relative, Kushim Warehallow. He is also the eldest living fae." Oliver explained to her. "Grandpapi," He turned to his grandfather. "This is my friend Harlow. I've told you about her before. She's the one."
Harlow questioned to herself if Oliver meant something else by that but quickly denied the thought and focused on introducing herself to Kushim.
"Hello Mr. Warehallow, it's a pleasure to meet you." She smiles. "I hope we can become great friends."
"Indeed Harlow. And please, call me Grandpapi." Kushim replies with a kind smile. "I've heard so much about you. I hope you do great things in the future."
Why are faeries so complicated? Harlow thinks to herself. It's like they speak in riddle but not quite. It's as if they hide the true meaning behind their words.
Harlow smiles and nods.
"It was nice seeing to you Grandpapi, but I must explain a few more things to Harlow. And since I didn't get to finish explaining things to her because we had to attend a demon attack, she probably still has questions." Oliver turns to Harlow and she nods as conformation.
"Ah, yes, yes. Go ahead, I won't keep you waiting. Have fun you two." Kushim says.
As they walk away, Harlow questions to herself. Why is Grandpapi okay with Oliver fighting a demon and potentially killing himself in the process? Must run in the family. She shakes her head and continues walking with Oliver.
They stop at a small pond with a view of the Atlantic ocean. They sit down on the edge of the pond wall and Oliver looks at Harlow.
"Questions." He says as more of a statement then question.
Harlow nods and clears her throat. "What do I have anything to do with this?"
"You're the key to saving this world. See, you come from one of the rarest supernatural reproductions. You're parents, the ones you've grown up to know, aren't your real parents. Your real ones died trying to protect you and your brothers. And you've been in hiding since."
What was that saying again? Harlow thought to herself. As yes, 'Family isn't always about blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.'
"I never really felt a connection with my parents and sister...but the way I feel around my friends, especially Kiran, they make me feel safe and loved..." she says, mostly to herself.
"That's because Kiran is your real brother. When your parents died, you and Kiran were on the run, but at the time, you were only 3, Kiran was 4, and Alexander, your eldest brother, was 10. He died alongside your father. So it was just you and Kiran at the time. Humans found you two and put you into the orphanage and you were adopted. And it was only luck that you two were neighbours."
"Does he even know he's my brother?"
"Yes, in fact he does. He was waiting until the right moment to tell you. He was waiting until your 14th birthday. In 7 months. He's known ever since the day you were born and has been protecting you as you've grown older throughout the years."
"So, if I'm the main 'key' in whatever is going on in your- our world, shouldn't Kiran have the same value as me?" she questions.
"Well, no. See, your mother descended from the Faerie queen back on our home planet. Your father was the love of her life and he loved her very much but he was only a mere human. Before she had you, she became very sick. So sick that she might not be able to have children because of her physical state. As much as your parents loved each other, they knew that something had to be done to protect you. So years in advance, a female faerie, more specifically a close, trusted friend of your mother, offered herself up to have an insemination so that you could have a protector. She got the insemination twice to guarantee your safety because your parents knew that your mother would eventually die from her sickness, and your father would not live long enough to always protect you because he has a human life span. So Alexander and Kiran were born. Then your parents had you and your mother died in the process with love in her heart. Your father raised you and your brothers until bad people invaded your home. He told you all to run. But Alexander couldn't bare the thought of leaving him behind so they fought them off while Kiran took you and ran." He took a pause. "Because you are the last living descendant of the Faerie queen and a demi Fae, people are after you because of your status and the power you possess because you have a direct bloodline connection to the royal family."
Harlow blows out a breath. "Woah...that's a lot to process. I- I mean I always thought that I'd just been born into my adoptive family but I mean-" She lets out a short laugh. "I just- it's a lot to take in at the moment."
Oliver smiles and nods in understanding. He knows what it's like to have lived a lie your entire life.
"Thank you Oli, really, I mean it. Without you, I don't know how I would've carried on. Honestly. You completely changed my life." She says with utmost sincerity.
"You're welcome," he says.
After a moment of comfortable silence, Harlow breaks it with her biggest question.
"So...what now?"
