Harlow's POV :

I walked out of the library confused. Why had the librarian said that? What did it mean? I had so many questions and so little answers. I closed my eyes and looked up at the sky and sighed. When I opened my eyes again I realized that the sun had already started to set. I must have been at the library for a while.

I walk down the steps of the library and decide to take a shortcut through the forest to get home, otherwise it'd be dark out if I took the normal route home. Now I know what people say about taking shortcuts alone with near to no light. Yes yes, stay in public, with lights and don't go anywhere alone. But honestly, what's the worst that could happen? I mean, no one goes into the forest anyways. It's just a lonely field of trees waiting for someone to cross it. So there's no harm in passing through. Right?

Wrong.

As I walked through the forest I felt less and less safe with the comfort of the trees and evening breeze. It was starting to get dark and I really needed to get home before I got yelled at.

I continued to walk through the forest when suddenly I smelt something coppery. I realized it was blood. And it smelled fresh.

I followed the scent until I came across a large oak tree. Somehow, I felt like I had seen it before. That's when I heard the screams. I slowly walked around the large tree and saw a figure hunched over a smaller figure. I realized the larger one of the two was a male and the smaller, a female.

That's when I came to my senses. "Hey!" I yelled. "Get off of her!" The male looked up in surprise and I saw that he had blood coming out of his mouth. He had brown hair and onyx eyes and...and fangs. What the hell?!

Once he saw me, he got up and ran away. I stared after him until he was a black smear in the distance. I then turned my attention back to the girl, only to comprehend she was limping away.

I called out to her and she turned back to me. That's when I caught a glimpse of her face. Aria?! What was she doing out here? And what was she doing alone? I blinked myself back to reality only to see she had disappeared.

I sigh and head back home.

As I enter my house my Mom comes bounding down the stairs and starts yelling at me. "What the hell Harlow? Where were you?"

I roll my eyes. "I was at the library. Calm down, geez." I tell her.

"Well you were supposed to be here hours ago! Ugh! You can't do anything right, you disgrace." My mother spits at me.

I scoff and say under my breath, "Unbelievable."

I sigh and go up the stairs. Just as I'm about to enter my room, my sister Eleonora moves in front of me, blocking my way. I look up to her face and give a 'really?' expression. She just smirks at me and says, "Ooh looks like you got yourself in trouble with Mommy." I just roll my eyes at her smug face. "Well I just wanted to tell you that Daddy got me a new purse. What'd he get you?" She asks me. "Oh that's right! He didn't get you anything." She laughs. "Serves you right brat!" Eleonara says while snarling in my face. All I can think of in that moment is her looking like a bird trying to roar. It's not possible, because the bird has a beak. I laugh to myself thinking how stupid she is, trying to prove her dominance.

I push her aside to get to my door. I open it and turn around. "Next time you try to insult me, use better insults. It's really disappointing how you have no brain cells whatsoever. Oh well. You can take yourself out of the bitch, but can't take the bitch out of you." I say to Eleonora.

She looks at me confused and obviously doesn't get my joke of calling our mother a dog. Whatever. The girl can't put two brain cells together. It's like talking to a wall. There's no point in trying.
