"My mother called it the greatest and most terrifying moment of your life, standing at the end of the surgical table knowing that the patient's life depends on you and you alone. It's what we all dream about because the first person who gets to fly solo in the OR, kind of a badass. We enter the world alone and leave it alone. And everything that happens in between, we owe it to ourselves to find a little company. We need help. We need support. Otherwise we're in it by ourselves. Strangers, cut off from each other and we forget just how connected we all are. So instead we choose love. We choose and for a moment we feel a little bit less alone"

"all i know and all i am is you"

Kelly walked by a conference room where Richard was having a meeting with the attendings. She squinted her eyes, trying to read his lips. She rushed to the interns. "The chief said Karev", she said. Aurora rushed to the residents lounge. "It's Karev", she said. Alex cheered. "Are you sure?" Holly asked. "Uh, no", Aurora said.

Kelly was spying on Richard again. Lexie rushed into the residents lounge. "He said Kepner", she said. "Don't trust the interns", Cristina said. "What, I'm not good enough for the solo surgery?" Holly said. Lucy raised her eyebrows. George rubbed Holly's back. "He might change his mind", Meredith said. Beck ran in. "He said Grey", she said. "Do you think that maybe he's just listing out our names?", Lucy said. "You just have to wait for the vote", Bailey said. "I did when I won. I was young, gifted and black and everybody knew it". Kelly came in. "They've made their choice", she said. "Who is it?" George asked. She pointed towards someone.

"The first solo surgery will take place tonight", Richard said to the residents. "It will be a below the knee amputation due to bone cancer. Choosing the winner isn't about the best surgical skills. It's about the highest form of trust, to put a life in their hands. For the first time, every single attending picked the same person: Dr Shepherd. However, she's out of the running, so she has to pick the winner instead. The winner will pick another resident to scrub in". "This is torture", Lucy said, burying her head in Alex's shoulder.

The residents were trying to suck up to Lucy. "Shut up, I'm just gonna think about it", she said. "You ready for the clinic?" George asked her.

"I'll catch up with you guys"

"Yeah, me too", her father said.

"Shut up"

Holly, George and Alex looked at her in confusion. Alex kissed her. "If you pick me, I'll let you scrub in with me", he said.

"Nice flattery"

He kissed her again. "I did not need to see that", her father said.

"I'm bored and tired", Kelly said to Beck. "Ok", Beck said, looking confused.

"I'm asking you to give me advice"

"Have sex"

"What?"

"You asked for my advice. There you go"

"I hate you"

Kelly approached Mark at the nurses station. Mark looked up and his breath hitched as he looked at her face. "See, I'm in a slump right now, and I've been told to look for sex as a way out of my predicament", she said, making him freeze. "But I think I'd rather just learn today. So, you interested?"

"Why are you talking about sex to me? I'm your teacher, I have things to teach"

"No, I was talking about medicine. The sex thing was a joke"

Bailey came over and Mark immediately snapped out his daze. "Dr Sloan, I heard you are doing a hypopharynx reconstruction to make a woman speak again, and I would like to scrub in", she said. "You can join Dr Ripa and I in the OR. She is on cappuccino duty, which I could use by the way", Mark said. Kelly smiled. "Of course, Dr Sloan", she said before walking away. He watched her walk away.
