"There's this thing that happens when people find out you're a doctor. They stop seeing you as a person and begin to see you as something bigger than you are. They have to see us that way, as gods, otherwise we're just like everyone else, unsure, flawed, normal. So we act strong, we remain stoic. We hide the fact that we're all too human. Patients see us as gods or they see us as monsters. But the fact is, we're just people. We screw up, we lose our way. Even the best of us, we have our off days. Still we move forward. We don't rest on our laurels or celebrate the lives we've saved in the past. Because there's always some other patient that needs our help. So we force ourselves to keep trying, to keep learning. In the hope that, maybe, someday we'll come just a little bit closer to the gods our patients need us to be"
"i know i'm pretending when i try to have an answer"
Callie, Owen, Cristina, Lucy, Beck and Owen were in the ER. "Our patient fell down a flight of stairs", Callie informed them. "It seems to have been caused by the cholecystectomy he had 5 days ago". Callie showed them the scar. "It looks like the procedure was done non-laparoscopically", Lucy said. "Well, he had the surgery in this hospital, performed by Dr Campbell", Callie said. "That explains it", Cristina muttered. "Why, who's Dr Campbell?" Beck asked. "Campbell was Seattle Grace's first female surgeon, as pioneer as it gets", Callie explained. "She mostly sits in her office spreading prestige around, but she still does routine surgery every now and then". "Correction, she botches routine surgery", Cristina corrected. "Alright, page Campbell", Owen said.
"I'd rather not work with a dinosaur who refuses to retire"
"The dinosaur is here", Dr Campbell said from behind them. "There's no need to page me". Lucy snorted. "This should be fun", she said.
Lucy and Callie were standing with Mark at the nurses station. "So, did either of you scope her out yet?" Callie asked them. "Who?" they asked in unison.
"Arizona"
"Oh"
"No, I haven't had a chance to swing by Peds and ask the nurse to point out the attending who kissed my friend in a bar bathroom", Mark said. "And I was too lazy too", Lucy added. Callie eyed the coffee in Mark's hand. "At least you're still good for coffee ", she said. "Not for you", he said. Addison approached them. "Coffee. Why, thank you, Mark", she said. "That's not for you either", he said, walking away. "It's for his lover", Lucy said in a baby voice, before walking away. Mark walked over to Kelly. "Good morning, Dr Ripa", he said. She glared at him. "You can keep your secret coffee", she said. "Until you tell Derek, our relationship continues to consist of hiding out in my apartment and secret on-call room meet-ups. Know what that makes you?"
"Your boyfriend?"
"Ha, no. A secret. A big fat dirty secret. A secret that I'm tired of, and really don't wanna keep anymore. I don't wanna have to be ashamed of this"
"I'm gonna tell him. Soon. When I do, you'll be my date to the wedding"
"Derek proposed?"
"Not yet. But when he does"
She smiled.
Lorraine, a former patient from the clinic, approached Lucy. "Hi, Dr Shepherd, I'm Lorraine. I don't know if you remember me", she said.
"Of course I do. It's good to see you. What can I help you with?"
"I was told by you that I have cancer, and a lot of tests later, it turns out I'm only anemic. Someone mislabelled the blood. My lawyer told me not to come here, but my conscious told me to come and say it, so the patient with cancer gets the right diagnosis"
"That was very kind of you. We apologize for the mistake"
"Don't apologize to me, I'm just anemic. Apologize to that dying person"
