"Hey Chuck"
"Hey"

The kid sounded sleepy, but she had an important question to ask.

"Chuck?" Amelia began
"Yeah?" He answered
"How do you become a runner?"

"𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱"

"Are you crazy?!" Chuck whisper-shouted

"Yeah, I think so. Now tell me" She said as she sat up in her hammock

"You dont just wake up one day decide you wanna be a runner and go out there. No. You need to have the things they look for in a runner" Chuck explained

"And what is it that they look for?" She really wanted this. The feeling she got when she looked at the maze walls a few hours ago. It was as if it was calling out her name.

Chuck groaned but continued anyway
"You should be Agile, have good reflexes because you never know what you'll find out there. Basically you need to have a really good physical health since you need to run out there for hours." Chuck didn't know why he kept telling her everything. It just... happened.

"Great, Thanks Chuck! Good night!" Amelia said as she got comfortable in her hammock. It didnt take her long to fall asleep.

- time skip to morning

Amelia woke to the sound of Chuck's snoring. She noticed that it still wasn't that bright but she couldn't seem to fall asleep again so she decided she'd just wake up early. She rubbed her eyes, and sat up. She saw that Chuck was still asleep but she couldn't seem to find Thomas anywhere. She had to talk to him about the maze.

She hopped out of her hammock and got fresh in the washroom. After that, she decided she'd take a go for a walk. When she got to the other end of the Glade, she saw Newt and Thomas looking out of a window. She jogged up to them and tapped on their shoulders, "Morning guys"

Both of them turned around, slightly scared by her sudden appearance. "Geez Amelia, you bloody scared us" Newt whispered.

"Sorry but why are we whispering?" She asked. Newt pointed to the window. Amelia looked through the window and saw a black creature in the maze. It had all sorts of machines on its claws and it made horrible noises as it moved.

"What the hell is that?!" Amelia whisper-shouted

"A greiver" Thomas told her. They both looked at each other petrified because they both knew they were gonna go out there and face something like that

"I never knew something like this could even be real" Amelia was shocked. All the courage she had till just a few minutes ago, slowly began to vanish. 'No. I have to do this' She told herself.

"C'mon, let's go" Newt said as they made their way to the kitchen for breakfast.

- Time Skip to after breakfast

"Hey Thomas?" Amelia began
"Yeah?" Thomas asked motioning for her to continue
"I talked to Chuck about how to become a runner. He said our physical health had to be good and I'm pretty sure the two of us have that."

"Yup" he said "But how do we try out as runners?" he asked her

"I don't know" She said and sighed.

- Time Skip

Newt, Amelia and Thomas walked around the Glade when Thomas noticed Alby going in the maze with Minho and the other Gladers.

"Alby is a runner too?" Thomas asked Newt
"No but he goes out there occassionally" Newt replied
"Then why can't the others go?" Amelia butted in
"Because Alby knows this place the best" Newt told them.
"What does that mean" Amelia and Thomas said simultaneously.
"Okay we need to stop doing that" Thomas said
"Yup" Amelia agreed

Then they both turned to Newt.

"Look every month a Greenie comes from the box, right? But there obviously had to be one boy who spent the whole month here. Alone. And that was Alby."

The two nodded.

"Are you two twins or something?" You do so many bloody things at the same time it's scary" Newt stated

The two laughed

"Maybe" Thomas said as he put his arm around the girl's shoulder.

- Time Skip to the evening

The newbies had been trying different jobs throughout the day. Seeing which fit them the best but none of them took interest in any. All the cared about was becoming a runner.

Amelia and Thomas were also trying to come up with different ways of getting out of here but turns out the other Gladers had already tried all of them.

"When are Alby, Minho and the other runners coming back? It's almost sundown" Amelia said, noticing it was getting dark.

"They should be here soon" Newt said

They waited for them to return but no one came back through the maze

A few minutes later, Amelia heard a loud noise. She knew what this was. The walls were closing.

"Newt the walls are closing they are still not back" Amelia said, worried about her friends. "Someone should go out there" She suggested

"It's against the rules and don't worry they will be back." He assured her

Amelia nervously bit her lips. The walls were only a few feet apart when she saw two figures on the end of the path. It looked as if Minho was dragging Alby. He had been hurt. Minho struggled to get them back in the Glade.

Amelia looked at Thomas. He looked like he was getting ready for something. She then saw him running towards the closing walls of the maze.

"Thomas no!" Amelia shouted as she ran after him. Both of them ended up inside the maze just as the walls closed.

They both looked at Minho

"Great you just got yourself killed"
