Activity 2 - Déjà vu

I walked down the stairs leading toward the grainy sand, the gentle street lamps lighting the way. The sand formed moulds around my feet leaving footsteps in the damp sand as I walked towards the water. The waves were eerily quiet. My eyes glanced over at the glistening reflection of the moon on the shining blue surface of the water.

The streetlamps were dim, barely lighting the way as we walked down the stairs, our hands entwined. Two sets of footprints followed us as we walked down to the waves silently. The splashes of the waves echoed around the darkened beach. I looked out at the dark water. The moon was hidden behind the clouds like it was playing hide and seek with us.

I looked around then back at the water. I took a deep breath before walking forward to the water. My toe touched the surface of the cool water before I leaped back.

"Let's go swimming!" he exclaimed.

"You know I can't swim!" I insisted to him.

"Don't worry. I'll hold onto you." he said, holding out his hand to me. I looked down at his hand, took a deep breath and then hesitantly took his hand. He slowly walked towards the water. As we neared it I shuddered in fear but took a deep breath and clung onto his hand tighter.

I watched as his feet slowly became surrounded by the water and then I gasped as the cool liquid ran past my legs.

"Don't worry. I've got you." he said again. I nodded and he took a step deeper into the water.

I took another deep breath before I slowly took another step towards the water. I put one foot in the water.

We continued in deeper til the water streamed around my chest. His hand was still tightly connected with mine. He pulled me towards him and hugged me tightly to him as he heard me whimper.

I took another step into the water, my foot submerging into the clear, cool water. Slowly I took a step, placing one foot in front of the other.

He hurriedly pulled away from me, the security I felt, fleeing as his arms left me. I turned around quickly as he waded swiftly back to shore causing me to slip. My feet came out from under me causing me to fall straight onto my bottom. My head fell under water, my mouth opened as I gasped causing a torrent of salt water to flood into my mouth and fill up my lungs. My arms flailed around me trying to pull me up so I could get some air but there was no luck. I couldn't find any sand to stand up on. I closed my eyes, praying that I'd survive.

I was about waist deep. I took a deep breath and turned around slowly. As I turned around my feet found solid sand to stand on causing a sigh of relief to flow out my mouth.

All of a sudden a strong hand pulled me up, before quickly carrying me bridal style back onto the shore. I coughed out the bucketful of water that I had swallowed before slowly opening my eyes.

The light blinded me causing me to blink rapidly until it cleared.

"Are you ok?" a tall, brunette said to me.

"Yeah." I replied, my voice raspy from the salt water. "Thank you."

Once I'd reached shore, I smiled before walking away from the beach.
