"I got two hundred for some jewelry, five hundred for my laptop, and two hundred and fifty for my TV."

Faye stepped aside after her report to let Ruby pass and started to hunt through her bag for her purse.

Ruby fluttered her bills with a mournful breath."I got another two hundred for the pendant my grandma gave me."

Beth scrunched her nose up sympathetically as she took the proffered money then rubbed Ruby's arm. Her unoccupied hand poured a gracious drink for her friend into one of the glasses lined up beside the neat stacks.

"Also,"She added when Beth handed her a glass."I'm on a first-name basis with the lady at the pawnshop. That's horrifying."

Faye handed her earnings to Beth in exchange for a glass. She took a sip as she tossed her jacket and bag onto the table then let herself drop onto the couch with a tired groan.

"I hated that necklace. It was clunky. But..."Ruby shook her head with pursed lips. She looked down at her drink with a sigh."I loved that woman."

Faye pulled herself across the couch until she was nestled into Ruby's side.

"I'm sorry."She murmured, peering up at Ruby.

She wound her arms around hers, rested her head on her shoulder, and smiled when Ruby's head lolled atop hers.

"I had to sell a charm bracelet Levi got me a couple years ago."Faye murmured forlornly."I cried over my coffee."

Ruby hummed her commiseration, her hand coming up and gently patting Faye's cheek. The pair watched as Beth summed up their latest amount and sipped their drinks silently.

"With what you've taken in, and the two grand i got this morning,"Beth turned around to face them."that's $3,150."

Ruby and Faye keened in unison just as the front door was pushed open. Their heads tipped back as Annie shuffled wearily into the front room.

She greeted them around a yawn."Hey."

Ruby and Faye lifted their glasses in welcome to Annie who's eyes illuminated a little at the thought of alcohol.

"Tell me you got a sixty thousand dollar raise today."Beth pleaded, her eyes following her sister as she rounded the couch. She met Annie with a drink prepared, only to top it up when her sister frowned at her.

"Ugh, a raise. Can you imagine?"Annie's reply echoed into her glass when she brought it to her mouth."Sorry, but I've got $13 to add."

She pulled the crumpled money out of her pocket and handed it to Beth. Her sister rolled her eyes, smoothed out the bills, and placed it on top of the nearest stack.

"You could ask Gregg again."

Beth's sudden suggestion was met with a splutter from her sister.

"No! No way in hell. I embarrassed myself enough."Annie outright rejected the thought. Concern glimmered across her face."And after the diner, I'm happy he said no."
