In their apartment, Mingyu stands in the kitchen, preparing late supper for his lover, who had been working late at his flower boutique. He stirs and stirs as he waits for Wonwoo to finish washing himself up.
He then hears the sound of the door opening, along with footsteps coming behind him to the table. But he also heard sniffles behind him. He turns around to see the smaller, hands in his face as he tries to suppress the sounds.
"What's wrong?" Mingyu stopped whatever he had been doing, walking over to Wonwoo as he held his face before burying it into his chest. As Wonwoo cried into his chest, Mingyu reached out his right arm over the table to turn on the speaker, cueing their song.
I'm telling you
"What's wrong, dear?" Mingyu combed through Wonwoo's hair with his fingers. "Why are you upset?"
Wonwoo shakes his head, refusing to speak up yet, his chest was troubled with the suffocating feeling. "It's nothing."
"How was work today?" Mingyu tries to take his attention somewhere else, only for Wonwoo to cry harder.
"Work was fine, I guess," Wonwoo tightened his grip, and Mingyu knew it was something about it.
"Then what's the matter? You usually come home from work happy," Mingyu admitted.
"I forgot about our date today and I worked more than I should have and that made me stood you up." Wonwoo spits out so quick that it took Mingyu a few seconds to register what he said.
"That doesn't matter, honey," Mingyu reached out to take Wonwoo's hand in his. "It's alright, you don't have to cry."
"But I've wasted your time, and now we'll take-" Wonwoo looks up at the ceiling, shaking his head before looking at the clock. "God knows how long for our time to free up again."
"We don't need some fancy place to have a good time."
"But you planned it for us, and I just feel horrible that I forgot about it, like I didn't take your feelings into account before I decided to work more-"
I love you.
Mingyu cuts him off by kissing him, "I love you for that."
"But-"
"No buts, dear. You can't stop me from loving you." Mingyu cuts him off again. "Remember this song?"
Wonwoo nods. "We kissed to the bridge of this song during their concert." Wonwoo shyly admitted, giggling after he remembered the moment.
"That was our third year anniversary that day." Mingyu added for the older.
"It's been that long, huh?" Wonwoo asked as he stopped crying. He wiped his tears, but the sniffles wouldn't stop just yet.
"I love you, you know that?"
Wonwoo shakes his head. "No, I'm not good enough to be by your side. I'm not as good as-"
"You don't need to be as good as whoever, I just want you to be you, alright? Nothing is going to change for me, ever."
"Why do you love me?"
"I don't need a reason, I just love you. Isn't that enough?" Mingyu kisses Wonwoo once, before pulling him off.
"It's true, I did have plans today. Yes, I worked hard on booking that restaurant that you longed to try. I spent my effort to go to waste," Mingyu swayed the both of them as he confessed with a soothing tone.
"Then why do you still love me?"
"A small mistake like that won't change my entire feelings for you." Mingyu replied, "sure, I may be a little mad, or unsatisfied with the outcome, but I'm sure the ending is the same."
We still have a long journey ahead
Please always, until death,
stay with me
"How long have we been together?" Mingyu asks after moments of silence from the smaller.
"Eight years."
"Eight years, and counting right?" Mingyu assures as he fumbled with the velvet box in his back pocket.
"Forevermore." Wonwoo nodded.
"Promise?"
"I promise you forever,"
"I want you to promise me forever right now," Mingyu pulls away from Wonwoo, before pulling out the box from his pocket as he got down on one knee.
"For us, the day we should celebrate the most is the day we met," Mingyu starts. "The day we bumped into each other at the record store, I was holding the last Niche Syndrome album as you stood there, looking at me, hoping I wouldn't buy it, right?"
"Did you just quote Wherever You Are?"
"I remember it clearly because it was my first time seeing such a person like you. And I decided to take my chances with luck." He adds on, ignoring Wonwoo's question.
"Then you decided to give the album to me," Wonwoo finally continues the story of their first encounter. "In exchange for my number."
"Marry me, Wonwoo." Mingyu requests, in a barely audible whisper.
"Of course, oh my god. Yes," Wonwoo accepted softly as he felt his hand shake.
Mingyu immediately slide the ring onto Wonwoo's finger before he stood back up, for the smaller to jump onto him. He catches Wonwoo, spinning them round in the living room, laughing and smiling from that moment.
They kissed after Mingyu had put Wonwoo back onto his feet. "So the second day we should celebrate the most is-" Wonwoo cuts Mingyu off.
"Is the day we call today," Wonwoo smiled before kissing Mingyu again, "I love you, and I'm sorry I ruined the surprise-"
"You have nothing to be sorry about, love." Mingyu assured Wonwoo. "You are someone who I can love from the bottom of my heart. All the past lovers didn't work out for me to lead me to you, to this moment."
Wonwoo runs his hand down Mingyu's chest before looking up to him. "You're always so forgiving when it comes to me."
"You are my heart, don't you ever forget that," Mingyu takes Wonwoo's wrists in his hands, before pulling him into the bedroom, forgetting all of the dishes they had to do.
