"Huh?"
Luca was sitting on the back of a red Vespa, and it was flying through the air, taking him across an ocean.
He laughed and gasped, looking around at the islands around him.
"Whoo-hoo-hoo!" he exclaimed, gripping the handlebars. "Yeah!"
"Pretty cool, right?"
Luca was jolted out of his daydream by Alberto, who looked to be silently gloating about the poster of the Vespa.
"Uh... Yeah."
He looked around the room again, now seeing parts to make one.
"Huh. Are you gonna make one?" he asked Alberto, who turned. "I think you have all the parts."
He watched the tan-skinned boy see what he was seeing and become very excited, eyes flying wide open.
"I do have the parts," he realized. "I am gonna make one! You wanna help?"
He gently beat Luca's arm.
"Me? Yeah!" he buzzed excitedly. "Wait! No, I can't! I gotta go home!"
He turned around, fumbling with his hands.
"Right this second?" he heard Alberto ask, who sounded crestfallen to hear this sad news.
"Yeah, if my parents found out I was up here, oof." Luca puffed out his cheeks and exhaled to imitate having it be a big deal. "It would be bad. So, thank you, but..."
He looked over at the Vespa poster and felt just as heartbroken as Alberto sounded.
He had just found out about something that would make his life actually interesting, and he would have to abandon it because of his parents.
"Goodbye. Forever..." he mumbled.
Alberto looked at the poster, then him again, mouth open and eyes back in the half-closed form.
one hour later
"Okay, but now, I really do have to go," Luca said, holding a circular stone slab, bringing it closer to Alberto, who was hammering a crate in place.
"Okay. Bye." Alberto seemed to perfectly understand, but not really care as much as he had, looking at his job.
forty-five minutes later
"Seriously, I have to go, like now. Like, right now," Luca told Alberto, who was spinning a wooden wheel on their improving makeshift Vespa.
"Okay. See ya." Alberto, again, definitely did not seem to care if Luca left or not.
two hours later
Luca stared at their completed Vespa in awe, covered in dirt and dark marks, and he didn't even know how he got them.
He wasn't that worried about them, though.
The water would wash them off.
"It's even better than in the picture," he breathed.
"Yeah it is," Alberto confirmed.
"Whoa!" Luca only then realized how late it was and how mad his parents would be. "Gotta run!"
He trotted to the ladder, hooking onto it.
"See ya tomorrow!" Alberto called after him.
Luca waved his hand goodbye.
