Prompt: Nagito X Shy!Reader. The reader is the ultimate altruist (peacemaker/conflict solver) and is very kind and forgiving. They go to see Nagito when he's tied up and show him there are more ways to find hope than he thinks. He then gets really excited because he's somebody's hope.

Note: Sorry if I butchered it a bit, I'm not good at writing shy personalities so they might be kind of an ambivert (introvert leaning). Also the end is kinda twisted but I love it lmao.

"Good morning everyone! Looks like today is going to be another perfect, tropical day!" the Monokuma announcement played, jolting Y/N awake.

Sighing, they got changed and began to head to the restaurant to see everyone.

However, they were the first one there. They decided to eat whilst sitting next to the window.

Eating slowly, they sighed. This food wasn't half as good as Teruteru's. "But he's dead now." they thought, taking another bite.

They froze for a second, hearing multiple voices and sets of footsteps, but resumed eating once confirming it wasn't just one person.

"I tell ya, we need to tie him up! He's too dangerous!" Akane's voice came from the stairwell, herself coming up a few minutes later. She was talking to Nekomaru, as always.

Y/N had no idea what she was talking about, but their presence was not noticed, so they were happy with that.

They watched everyone else come up, and began watching the conversation.

Suddenly, they realised they had to butt in.

"You can't tie up Nagito, that's not the right path to take!" They were surprised at the volume of their own voice, but stood up to join everyone else.

"Why the hell not? D'ya wanna be his next victim?" Akane asked, picking at her nails.

Y/N said nothing as they sighed.

"That's what I thought! Anyways, we should..." Akane began.

Y/N knew they could do nothing about the others, but decided they were going to nip the flower at the bud and talk to Nagito himself.

"Hey, can you take Nagito's food to him for me?" Mahiru asked Y/N, holding out the tray for them to grab.

"Uh... sure!" they said, taking the tray from her.

Walking from the lobby to the other house, they began to think about how Nagito might feel about being locked up like this.

They opened the door to see Nagito on the floor with his hands tied behind his back.

"Hello there, Y/N." He said, grinning.

"Hey Nagito. I brought you some food." they said, putting the tray down in front of him.

"Can you feed me? I can't feed myself since my hands are all tied up." Nagito asked, nodding towards his hands.

"N-no," they blushed at his request. "But I can untie you."

As they untied him, Nagito grinned wildly. "Such hope... especially from the ultimate altruist..." He thought.

"Are you sure you want to untie me? You never know what I might do." Nagito said, rubbing his wrists where the rope had chafed them.

"I can tell you some other things to do instead? Not everything comes from violence, you know." Y/N said, handing him the tray.

"What do you mean? Hope always springs from despair." Nagito took a bite of his roll, watching Y/N intently.

"There are so many ways to find hope other than in violence. You could be nice to people or do things to make them feel hope other than plunging them into despair." they said, sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of Nagito.

"Are you sure? All I've ever done is drastic things for hope. Smaller things seem... wrong." Nagito put the empty tray to the side of him and rested his face in his hands.

"This might just be my view on it, being the ultimate altruist, but I don't think violence is always the answer." Y/N said, fidgeting with their hands.

Nagito then surprised himself and Y/N by hugging them. He held them close for a few minutes before grinning and letting them go.

"I'll try to change for you. You seem to be very... Hopeful." Nagito said.

"You are my hope, Nagito. I wouldn't want you to sacrifice yourself for hope if it meant losing mine." They muttered. "I've got to go, Sonia wants me to hang out with her and the girls." They got up and grabbed the empty tray.

"Bye, Nagito." they said quietly, closing the door.

Nagito didn't reply. Instead, he was gripping with the revelation of being someone's hope. He had never felt he was even worthy of being such.

He smiled. He was going to make sure he remained their hope, no matter what it took.
