"You're just like all other heroes!" Lady Nagant's voice was full of anger and pain. Her eyes were bloodshot, but she wasn't able to cry.
She punched him directly on the nose. There was a good chance that she broke it. There was a good amount of blood.
"I was stupid to believe that you were any different from them!" She screamed.
Hawks let the blood drip out as he zoned back into reality. He noticed Satoko was gone as he looked up at Lady Nagant. The guilt felt heavily weighted upon him.
"I know I screwed up." He couldn't look at her eyes. Not when he's so remorseful. "What I feel for you is real too. I'm really sorry."
It really wasn't. That's all he could hang onto. He already lost Satoko. He didn't want to lose Lady Nagant either.
Lady Nagant felt like her world was falling apart once again. How could anyone have the audacity to believe that they could be with two women without them knowing? That kind if selfishness was exactly what Nagant hated in the world.
"I thought that you were different than the rest. I'm stupid for trusting anyone who claims to be a hero. I let you be the center of my world for a while, and you go and do this?" She shook her bloody hand in disgust. "I can't be with someone like you."
She wondered what sorts of things he did with that other woman. Did he hold her as tenderly as he held Lady Nagant? Did the other woman call him a chicken too? When he kissed her, was it as sweet?
It was clear that the feelings he had towards Lady Nagant weren't feelings of love. It was purely physical attraction. He took advantage of the fact that she truly loved him. He was one of the most skilled liars she had ever met, which was really saying something. She could only wonder if he really did love the other woman at some point.
He stumbled a bit while he got up. The pain was apparent in his eyes. But he was being a bit desperate at this rate. "I wasn't thinking clearly with everything going on in the Commission."
"I know it's a poor excuse, but what could I do? You were there tempting me." His voice sounded stressed. "Before I knew it, I fell for you and forgot about her."
It was all lies. Deception. He wanted a rebound since he really lost Satoko now. He wanted to fill the void in his heart that it made no sense with his actions.
He didn't fall for Nagant. He needed someone as an escape. It was actually pathetic.
"Forgot about her?" Nagant practically hissed. "You live with her! If you actually forgot, you would have broken up with her!"
"I know! I just couldn't. It was complicated, alright?" Hawks defended emotionally. "I'm sorry. I really am. I will be honest with you from now on. Even right now, I'll even explain-" He tried to reach out to touch her face, but was pushed away.
She had a hold on his wrist. She shoved his arm away forcefully. That sort of 'affection' from him would be too difficult to not fall into the trap of. She didn't want to fall for anymore lies of his. "Don't you dare touch me."
When he seemed at a loss for words, she turned her back to him. Lifting her hand to the doorknob gave her an odd sense of finality. She sighed before opening the door and then closing it behind her as she left the house. That was the last time she would see him as anything more than a colleague.
Hawks didn't bother wiping away his nosebleed. He let it drip down his nostril. The bags Satoko left still lingered on the ground. When he opened one, he noticed the chicken plushie.
On cue, salty droplets flooded down his cheeks. Tasting like a mixture of iron and salt. After everything he has done so far...
(She really loved me despite how I treated her.) He felt a wave of nausea and disgust towards himself.
