jihye sat, bored of life

jihye sat, bored of life. the laptop was a glaring white screen as she stared at all the work she had to complete. she would give anything to escape this office. the rows of identical desks that the mindless workers sat in, sounds of keys typing filling the painfully quiet yet boring atmosphere. she could only stare out of the glass windows that encased the building out into the city.

it was nearing 8pm. as much as she wanted to go, she wanted to finish as much work as she could at the workplace but her stomach was growling with hunger.

"park. you should go home before it gets too late. you haven't eaten dinner yet," her co-worker grilled as she stood up with her work bag on her shoulder.

mihi was quite the friend to have around. she was a wild-card, which made jihye wonder how she ended up in the office with her. nevertheless, jihye loved having her around as she was possibly her only friend, even though they barely talked with their lives.

jihye sighed with nothing but exhaustion. her body was physically weak of exhaustion, her mind clouded with how many hours she had sat in front of the screen that day.

she rubbed her eyes, not caring about how she looked. she had taken off her makeup earlier when most people had left. it was indeed getting late outside, the sun was already absent from the ever-darkening sky. dark clouds were gathering up, blocking the pleasant moonlight from entering the glass windows of the office building.

"come on, I'll take you back with me."
"but you're just going to leave me halfway-"
"ugh, fine, just come with me. we're leaving."

mihi dragged jihye out with little resistance because, in reality, jihye did want to leave the office, go home and eat. plus mihi was quite the athletic, jihye being the lazy one that didn't exercise. she didn't even know how mihi found time to exercise yet she didn't ask, simply submitting to her actions.

it was winter, the wind a chilling knife to one's skin. the temperature was at a numbing low. a cozy brown coat pulled over her figure as she wrapped her grey scarf around her neck. her cheeks were rosily frozen already.

it was about halfway back to her home that she realized she had nothing at home to eat, dropping by a convenience store that sat at the corner of a turn. mihi had disappeared into the darkness, leaving her friend alone with the excuse that she was tired. even with the latter obviously being an excuse, jihye didn't mind. she was a grown adult and she could perfectly handle the night. at least in her opinion.

she ran by the instant noodles aisle, knowing that she wouldn't have time to prepare dinner for herself. grabbing a green cup of noodles, she was in fact very unsure of what flavor it was, yet her stomach told her not to care. she just wanted to enter the comfort of her apartment, eat and sleep. funny considering how she was refusing to leave the office just 30 minutes ago. clutching her bag tightly, jihye exited the store silently, if not for the ring that announced her exit.
