"So this is Airroad the impregnable fortress that protects Phayor," Clark thought to himself as he walked towards the fortress gate. It was down and before long a guard shouted out to the human below them.
"Halt who are you, and state your business here!" the ark guard shouted below.
"Oh shit! I'm spotted! Oh well," Clark thought to himself as he created a purple rune. His yellow eyes began glowing and so did the rune.
"Holy shit," the guard grunted as he ran towards the alarm. He pulled it and sirens rang around Airroad. Guards rushed to their positions ready to confront Clark.
"Fire!" A guard captain yelled from atop the gate walls. On his command, archers shot a volley of arrows down towards Clark. Just as the arrows neared Clark his rune finished charging, sending a purple shock wave freezing the arrows in place. The arrows turned around and faced the archers that fired them. Clark began laughing menchicly. The arrows fired back towards the archers.
"Duck!" The guard captain quickly yelled once he noticed the arrows froze in midair. Clark raised his hand into the air and brought his index finger down towards the archers. The arrows flipped around and sizzled through the air towards the wall the archers were perched behind. Some of the archers were quick enough to duck behind the wall, while the others not so much. Their own arrows pierced their armour killing some on the spot.
"Prepare the ballistas! We need heavy fire now!" the captain yelled orders, as arks rushed to fulfill them. As the soldiers finished loading the ballista, two large black tentacles erupted from the ground. Before the archers could finish loading the ballistas, the tentacles came crashing down destroying the towers and segments of the wall.
"This is starting to get boring," Clark yawned while creating two small purple runes on his palms. They began to glow a dim purple. Clark released the charged magical energy sending purple blast towards the gate causing it to burst open. Clark walked through the gate, Airroad was at his merciless hands
"Charge!" a captain yelled as he led a group of falainks.
"Easy," Clark chuckled as he placed his hands on the ground. A large purple rune appeared on the ground. As the falanks foolishly ran over the large rune purple magical energy erupted from it killing the soldiers in the process. The magical energy spread out from the rune catching adjacent buildings aflame. Once again Airroad was ablaze.
"Admiral, you need to evacuate!" a young ark soldier shouted as he ran into the admiral's office.
"Now, now calm down, I know what is happening. I already sent an express messenger to Phayor," an old ark spoke as he looked out the window watching the chaos unfold.
"But Admiral, aren't you going to evacuate?" the soldier asked as he steps towards the admiral.
"No! A good captain goes down with his ship. I will not flee while my men die!" the old wise admiral said loudly as he faced the soldier.
"Admiral, duck!" the soldier yelled as he saw a blast of purple energy attack the building. The blast hit the building leveling it completely burying both the soldier and admiral.
"I hope Lars isn't this boring," Clark yawned as he resumed his walk to Phayor. The city had less than a week until its greatest nightmare came knocking at its doorstep.
In Phayor
"How much longer until every balista is finished being upgraded?" Zac asked a general who was flipping through a bulging binder.
"We should have them all finished before nightfall sir," the general responded.
"Um, excuse me?" Alvin asked as he noticed a frantic ark run into the room.
"I I I... Have... urgent news," the ark panted as he was out of breath from his flight from Airroad.
"What is it?" Zac asked as he turned to face the messenger.
"There was an attack on Airroad. It has been completely destroyed by the same lone mage who attacked Steelsville. If he continues at his current pace, we can expect him to be here in five days," the ark said before collapsing on the ground.
"I will bring him to the infirmary," Alvin said, getting up and walking towards the collapsed ark.
"You come with me, we must make a final check on all of our defences and increase the severity level around all of Phayor," Zac said to the guard as he got up.
